Any issues w Weisco 8.5 compression pistons?

Im about to buy the weisco 8.5 compression ratio pistons. Is this slight bump in compression from 8.3 to 8.5 a big deal? Is the weisco brand ok for the R53?

I'm not particularly familiar with the brand (actually spelled Wiseco), but a compression ratio of 7.5-8.5 is just fine with a boostfed engine.

I think that the twin charged helix mini has them. but I also think that weisco bought JE and they are just the JE piston re branded.

My engine builder says he abused his wiesco pistons in his 1940 10 sec ford drag race coupe And they looked great after 5 years of abuse. Im sold. The only problem is that as soon as I "watched" them on ebay I noticed the vendor raised the buy it now price 30 bucks.

Chad from Detroit Tuned has used these in some of his rebuilds. Give him a call.

So then why did you ask us if you have a engine builder?

Because he used them in an old school ford V8. Much different than using them in a Mini. He is an older retired mechanic who is helping me, very talented but not steeped on compact sport cars. Perhaps they work great in a V8, bad in a supercharged Mini? Just checking. Dont want to rebuild this again in my lifetime.

Per Colin's comment, if Wiseco bought JE, and they continue the same production lines and quality standards, you should be good.

Wiseco made them. We actually had the very first set and there was a problem we identified with the wrist pin boss clearing crank counter balance weights. Wiseco fix the issue before it went to production.

I have a recent .020 oversized set in the Beest. I ran into an issue with the skirts clearing the Pauter Rods which have an unusal shape. This is just a case of one aftermarket part not designed to fit another aftermarket part from a different manufacturer. We machined the rods and the issue was resolved.

All in all I abuse the ever living **** out of the car @ 22psi and have had 0 issues. I am making well over 300whp with the new intercooler design I am running. Go for it.

I still think you should buy a factory mini long block and put it in the car.
vs monkeying with after-market stuff, because you have clearly had issues....

Should be fine. I'll show pics. I couldnt find a tuner that could make 10:1 work without methanol. I have had nothing but problems w the meth kit w consistently working good. I hope the light pearly oil is because that was only the second oil change since the first rebuild. Labor is no sweat since I work at a shop.

its 10:1 on a roots blower, of course it needs meth.
Also the stock ecu is not as well defined as some of the other cars out there.
such as LS Evo and Sti stuff. so its hard to control.
If you had a aquamist and you were having problems with it, its likely it was down to install error, i have had 0 problems with mine. the same for the people whos kits i have installed. they all function normally.
Should be good to see what you come up with though.

Methanol has become a pain to rely on. I miss being able to mash the throttle without worrying about a piggy back meth system. I agree with you Collin, once the system started working, it has yet to not work properly. But being so crucially reliant on meth freaks me out. I would like my meth to be a bonus not a survival necesity

I guess theirs that, I have meth.
I beat my cars *** all the way up angeles crest highway to streets of willow today,
drained the tank on the way there so i just was fairly easy on it on the way home.
I just need a bigger tank or to stop being lazy and hook up the map switching on my vipec.

I built my own meth kit and use my boost
Controller to turn it on. I have 0 issues and it is mostly
Due to a good filter.

I had issues with my high speed valve, but Jeff at aquamist (good dude) sent me a new one which has never failed me.
Looking back though, I never would have done a methanol reliant setup. I will still use Methanol after the rebuild but downsize the amount and use it only for full throttle and cooling. Teardown begins this week!
