The lower curve is the first pull. The car didn't make as much boost as it did on the street so we bumped it up (from 19psi to 21psi). We also leaned it out from very rich 10:1 to the now 12:1 AFR.

Mods: lightly portmatched JCW head, stock cam, 650cc injectors, piggyback tuner, .020" over Weisco Pistons, Pauter Rods, stock intercooler, GT2871 turbo, oversized supercharger pulley, exhaust, and some other misc. stuff I can't think of.

Nice...always loved the sound of the twincharged cars Even though twincharging has been around since the early days and there have proved to be more efficient options, there is just something so wrong yet awesome about it that I love

When you going to get a ViPec on it??

On your famous low reading dyno, with such few mods and such strong numbers....I can't help but wonder what it will do with a proper head, suitable cam, etc....

Note that those numbers are on the Helix 'Heartbreaker' Mustang MD-250 dyno. On another machine, it would've been 320 whp.

Yup. There's still a boatload of power to be had. Although he hasn't called us about it yet, I think Jan is on the verge of sending us a free head and cam. I can just feel it...

More than any MINI engine set up I read so far. Is twincharging coming back?

Join the Helix Facebook Group. There is plenty about the wildebeest up there including the new liquid air intercooler. Is a brand new opposing flow design.

Care to explain how this new opposing flow A2W design works?

The water flows across the core in the opposite direction as the air. The water enters the core through a series of baffles where it makes a right hand turn, flows through a wafer thin jacket, and makes a left turn through another series of baffles to the exit. The idea is equal distribution of water through the core and full heat exchange. The hottest air hits the hottest water and coldest air hit the coldest water. The water travels in a Z pattern through the core.

So far the results are fantastic. Previous peak AIT was around 50-60*F above ambient temp and now I see a peak of 18*F with average between 8-15*F above ambient air temps. Much of this is heat soak from the aluminum intake manifold. I plan on installing a phenolic spacer on the manifold and wrapping both the manifold and intercooler in an Aerogel wrap I am working on. This will allow the intercooler to dedicate almost 100% to cooling charge air rather than the double duty the current Air/Air intercooler is doing cooling charge air and engine radiant heat load.

Here is a pic of the bottom. You can see all the bungs added to the end tanks for pressure and temperature data logging.

Here is a pic of it on the car. I had to make some changes for PCV and rebuild my chargepipe. You can see the clear bleeder line that I have running from the small integrated reservoir. This picture is actually clear enough to see the thin water and thicker air charge rows.

This intercooler does not have our bullnose header bars due to the thinner width of the water jacket. If all goes well we plan on using this design on many future offerings like the Abarth, and possibly offering it for the R53 (if there is enough intrests). At that point we will invest in the bullnose extrusions. However I would have to make some changes to the below intercooler to allow a direct bolton.

The goal is ambinet intake temps 80% of the time. I am spending a lot of time researching thermal loads and management in the cars we produce parts for.

Ok got it. I'll be interested on that aerogel you are working on.

I myself have installed a A2W intercooler (mini madness core) and would like to lower down the temp more for stop and go driving.

I noticed you have black coated horns and are they coated with thermal dispersant coating?

I am not sure what horns you are talking about.

BTW I SOOOOO want an Exige S especially the new one. Have you seen the twincharged widebody Ronin Exige?

Watch this and tell me twincharging is not efficient!

The horns I'm talking about are the one attached to the intercooler on both side. They are black and wondering if you had them coated with thermal dispersant.

Yes, I saw that exige on you tube. Its fast and looks like tons of mod money went to it. Twin charging? I don't have experienced with it or know someone personally so i can't say good or bad about it.

I was going to buy a R56 and now I just want an exige for a change of platform. My R53 is here to stay for a long time.

Nice job there Helix, sweet fabrications and good job on the packaging. I played the Lotus video, it was sick.

Oops I knew that 8^) They are just rattlecanned black. I am going to wrap the post intercooler horn in Aerogel. Everything intercooler and after will be wrapped. BTW it looks like you are running the same heat exchanger that I am. I am looking through your build thread.

Helix,

an idea, stolen from the R8 "Blackbird" project that could be cool for your ride, and prolly give you just a lil more HP: the Blackbird R8 has an electronic actuated exhaust dump cutout that automatically opens at about 5200 rpm. Mayhap you could do something similar at some specific RPM-age, to maximize your HP, and scare the P*ss out of ppl when driving around town if youd like

i refer to one of these (not nec gotten from ebay, but same concept)

Got it rattlecanned black. I wonder if thermal dispersant coating will do better or the same as wrapping intercooler with aerogel? Anybody know? That's a mini madness intercooler I bought long time ago and completed the system recently and installed. Not sure if i want to put more money into improving the IAT with the A2W to make it better on daily driving. In mind is meth injection package that i can swap between my MCS, MR2 turbo and future Exige .

Honestly I am not a fan of dumps. If anything I am trying to make it more quiet. I prefer "uneventful effortless speed".

Frank will tell you its biggest problem is heat management.
Just gotta get the temps under control.
