Time to replace everything!!!

My 02 MCS the harmonic balancer went a couple months ago. With 93,000 miles I figured this was fine since it was still factory and the failure rate on them. While I was in there I installed a 17%wmw pulley, DT tensioner stop, along with the ATI dampener. Well around 2 months later I'm hearing a squeal when I start the engine. Go to check it and the tensioner stop is shredding and a bolt has come out of the tensioner shock, sot the tensioner stop is rubbing the ATI Pulley. Found the squeal. So I get it home, get to working on it and bolt hole is stripped on the tensioner so can't get the shock to stay on. Order new tensioner. Go to take old tensioner off and upper motor mount decides to decenigrate as I remove the nut to jack the engine up. So now I can put the new tensioner on and wait for a new mount.

As if my wife didn't think I was already spending too much on my MINI, I gotta spend more.

Be hitting WMW up for a new mount. Hopefully I can find the time to work on the car next week, baby due on Monday. That's why I was doing it today!

There will come a time when it is just too expensive. And that point is quite different for each of us.

I plan on keeping MINI forever, so anything short of it burning to the ground, i plan on reparing or upgrading. My wife may not agree with that but i can spend a couple hundred here and there or a few thousand.

Been there, did that. No regrets. Now 9 years and 187k miles, and a whole mountain of great memories with more to come.

Cheers,

Charlie

Thanks Way, I think I'm having withdraws. Haven't driven my baby in almost 2 weeks. Can't wait to get back on the road. I will be ordering a few more parts in the near future for preventative maintenance.

I'm hoping I don't have to get that deep into the engine as you have cmt. At least not soon. When it does go I'm planning on some upgrades all around. Thinking of getting a dyno tune done next year as I want to got to 400 injectors to complement the other upgrades.

I'm with you. My 05 MCS is sitting in my garage while it takes a break from a year of the daughters driving it. They put 20,000 miles on in a year. Now it sits in the garage waiting on funds for some upgrades. Should be back on the road in another month.
And of course I had to buy another mini to keep everyone happy. At least I get to drive something fun while I am waiting.

I know what you mean about the wiffe thinking you spend too much time on your car... my s/c failed and at the same time my damper broke, so I threw in a water pump for good measure... did i mention the week before it was the slave cylinder? still love this damn thing though

Wife doesn't know but I plan on changing the supercharger/water pump next year. As preventative maintenance. No issues with mine yet but just want to be safe. Like I told her, I can pay for up keep on this car or I can pay 3 to 4 times as much for payment and insurance on a new mini. She liked th idea of the cheaper route. Especially since I do most of my own labor.

And thanks Kathy, it's mine forever.
