I just bought a stock MCS head and now I would like some advice on making this head flow better.

Any thoughts and advice are welcome.

It is of no value. It is nothing more than a giant paper weight. Scrap metal at best. If you want to unload it, I'll give you 25 cents to the dollar you paid.

Why do you guys think that it is a waste of time and money. I have always heard that you can get a lot from a properly ported and polished head. Extrude honed will even be better. Is this opinion from experience?
Thanks for the input though.

Yes, enourmous changes needed to be made to the S head, especially in the exhaust valve, I too am working on a head as Randy, Pilo, Madness, etc... but i think im taking a little different approach than they are, but then again everything i do is not for "mass" comsumption, but for the die hard racer, so there is a difference, not that one is better than the other, its all in the purpose...IN your position, i would ask myself is it worth it to pay for machine work to get the gains you want or go "aftermarket" with published results, I think it would depend if you know a reputible machine shop that does outstanding work at a great price, as well can source valves for you, and a time factor, can you wait for the machine shop or all of us to come out with our heads and then compare them....

My bid is $0.56 . What else was done to this car now that you are choosing to go ahead and void your warranty? Unless you are a surgeon like mechanic or have one working for you it will show that the head was removed. I would just knock out all the other mods before you go ahead and drop the coin for this mod. I would also like a shipping quote to 10994 West Nyack NY

If the shop really knows there sh**, it will cost $1,500 for the headwork. Even if they don't. Most head mods on the market are not done by the vendor, but by a sub-contracted head shop, and there are plenty of those around. Go for one with the most experience in 4 valve, 4 cylinder, OHC, preferably with flow bench and an engine dyno and who understands the limitations of the dyno/flow mumbers compared to track performance. It ain't the meat, it's the motion.

We are spending tuesday and wednesday on the car with the dyno doing before and after runs, as well as getthing install pics for the Magazine we are going to be featured in. I will have all the info next week regarding performance and stuff. We will be right around the 1500 Dollar mark, and expect some good gains. This head had many hours flow bench testing, and should give great numbers.

Thanks
Dan

Thanks for all that feedback. All the positive ones... I was also told by Colin or any of the performance gurus that headwork is worth it. As for warantee issues, I am planning on putting this performance head when my warrantee expires. Patience is always good as well as smart. I have a 2002 MCS, so that means 2 more years. I think the warantee expires after 5 years of ownership. This is a project for me. To learn how what work needs to be done to optimize our car's potential.
