Weird I drove a 2012 JCW Coupe and it was overall extremely quiet in every aspect.. from exhaust, engine, to the dv noise.. one of my turn offs to it.
Possibly a personal thing (what is loud enough)... but did you drive it long enough to warm up? I find it takes at least 10 minutes this time of year for the car to get 'loud' as it were.

20 min drive in 75* weather here.
But they told me they insulated the coupes more than other JCW models.. which i found depressing as well.. granted I currently run a catless TBE on my MCS I guess thats where my comparison comes in.
I dont think an intake can void a warranty.. if you are on a budget the alta is generally the cheapest one i find used. But it is still a good piece. People argue intake temps with every intake but yet not ONE person has ever backed up their claims with data logging or solid information.
I installed the DoS CAI on my MCS and now my BPV sounds amazing and beastly. It is a slightly tricky to install, but very well worth it. My installation took about 90 mins in total.
^ Why don't you take off the bottom half of the filter housing? It will be a much cleaner look. I believe you just have to pull up on it form there. That part is removed for installation of the DoS.
Couple of questions:
1. Do you take your mini mudding cause i have never seen so much water/dirt in the engine bay lol. Hopefully that filter isnt getting wet.
2. How are gaining anything this way? Are you running the stock snorkel to the headlight?
Your setup looks like you have a filter in a really hot area that is completely enclosed.
Well it's not heavy and I don't really care about the underhood appearance. I also have the top half and filter stored in the boot where the spare would go so I can easily swap back even if I'm away from home.
The stock snorkel has an elbow that normally feeds into the bottom half and I turned it so it points straight up into the bottom side of the cone. I don't expect any gains this way, I just did it for the sound and as long as I can't tell that it got slower, I'm fine. It's all about fun to drive to me rather than dyno numbers or track times. And yes, my Mini is not afraid of sliding around dirt roads :P
Do you have your scoop opened? I would remove that stock lower portion so more cold air can get in that air and hopefully lower some EGTs.. if you have an AP you should log your Air temps with the stock vs the cone and see what the differences are.
