Resonator/Secondary cat delete???

Ive been looking for cheap mods for my 08 MCS, and today i stumbled upon something interesting that i hadn't thought about doing. There were people who just did a resonator and secondary cat delete on their stock exhaust... the sound is just the sound i want, but how will this affect the cars performance? Will it add hp? Thanks

Resonator delete is what a lot of us 1st gen guys do. It shaves weight and adds sound, probably doesn't lose power, though gains probably aren't dramatic.

As far as the cat delete, the EPA says that's a no-no except under very specific circumstances: http://www.epa.gov/compliance/resour...hsysrepair.pdf

You would have to check the legality in your area for your use.

Yes, but do you have a R52s or R56s?

Says you can't remove it if it came installed from the factory, period. Removal is at your own risk, but a violation of that law and probably state law too.

Its an R56... But if its illegal to remove the second cat, how come there are some exhaust systems such as Super Sprint that don't have one at all?

As you'll notice from a lot of the manufacturers of headers and down pipes that delete cats they usually have to put a note advertising either not street legal or for track use only as removing any emmision related component is a federal violation.

you should probably post this in the R56 section instead of the R53.

Super Spring sells a Cat for their header system not their exhaust system but thats for the R53 dont know about for the R56.

Resonator delete might not be legal in your state most after market headers and performace exhausts are for off road use only you should check with a local exhaust shop for more info.
