Turbo options? (Rebuild/new)

So, the turbo on my Mini Cooper S is dying. I'm getting the "death whine" when the boost kicks in. Seems to be a lot louder when the engine hasn't completely warmed up.

Now I'm looking at my options as a replacement for that turbo. Either looking into a company to rebuild it, possibly rebuild it myself or just get a new turbo.

Could this be as simple as getting a VAG K03 or K03S replacement or does it have the be the R56 K03 with the dual scroll wheel/rebuild?

Any imput would be appreciated.

I've been considering that option, but on the other hand I can pick up a VAG K03 K03S for less than $200 used and run that until I get rid of this car.

Vag turbo won't work on the mini.

Best day in your life will be the day you sell the mini.

TROLLOLOLOLOL.

I'm not even going to explain myself to you, but if you haven't found out how crappy the R56 is yet, you're in for a surprise.

From what I have read on NAM it needs to be the R56 turbo...the garden variety turbos will not perform well in the Mini...a search should bring this up. Alta also does a modded turbo for the car...they might be worth looking into; if nothing else, talking to. Way Motors would be another contact.

Sorry to hear that you are so down on Minis...Not all of us have had problems that you seem to have had. My '07 had 1st year model pains but nothing that would have me thinking of it as "crap"; it just didn't survive a fight with a guardrail (another story).

You may think Biebs is crap, but a lot of people are enjoying his Christmas album I personally wouldn't be part of a forum about something I feel so negative towards. Happy Holidays and good riddance to your r56.

Why do you keep a car you are so down on???? Sell it, trade it and take the loss and move on... Pretty simple. I would by no means keep a car that I thought was a POS just for the joy of talking smack on a forum about it...

I owned the highest whp r56 in north america, sold it and bought a 1M.

Not bashing the r56 but I can tell you the r53 is the better mini.

A r56 is like a harley, all about style and zero performance.

Wasn't the general consensus that the r56 is a higher performing car in every way compared to the r53? Better acceleration, better handling, better brakes, etc. Every review I've ever read/heard has said just that.

I'll agree that the engines aren't as bulletproof, but stock vs. stock the r56 will be a better DD and put up quicker lap times.

Also (please take this in the right way...I'm seriously just curious), what brings you back to the MINI forum if you have moved on into your 1M?...which btw I'm very jealous about. What a vehicle.

Yeah, I keep this car to complain about what a POS it is on this forums.

You guys are crazy.

I came here and asked a legit question.

I was hoping to more than just the answer of replace with stock or JCW!!!

My car is fun to drive and it's cool to look at.

As far as a reliable daily driver? Not so much.

Sorry I got panties in wad stating my opinion on my car.

Who is the Biebs? Is he like Leif Garret or David Cassidy? Sounds like one of them fellas that wears tight pants

Once the Koolaide wears off you will learn how much of a POS a r56 is.

A r56 is like one of those hot girls from high school, when you see her at your 10th or 20th class reunion you come to find out she never was all that to begin with.

Maybe he should buy and old Jag to tinker with? This car is no Nissan by any stretch but working on it has been a joy compared to the few memories I haven't blocked out about servicing my old V12's.

Some people are never satisfied with what they get. Other than a few things wrong with my R56 I am still happy. I just wonder what cars people come from that they think you can mod it and you will have a super reliable car. I have never seen a highly modified car that doesn't have problems. Also like I have been saying from day one that I came on here when people bashed the crap out of Alta, none of you know what car problems are from a factory until you have seen how Nissan butchered the 2002-2006 B15 Sentra SeR Spec V. The thing from the get was plagued by problems such aas the catalytic convertor breaking down and getting sucked into the motor and detonating it. Also when the butterfly screws in the intake maifold backing themselves out and grenading the motor. I got these for days on all the problems with that car. Oh one last one just because this was the most annoying out of all of them, every time and I mean everytime I would touch a screw driver or wrench to it a bolt would break. Didn't matter loosing it or tightening it it woul snap the head right off. With all of those problems I still loved the crap out of that car and embraced some of its idiosyncrasies.

So if you don't like the R56 or R53 or MINI in general move on find something else. Hope you have fun. Just please stop coming on here bad mouthing the car because you had a bad expierence with it. Not all of us are having your type of expierence. Some of us are doing just fine and are dealing with what we have.
