nm hi flow air intake

Ok, lame question, but has anyone installed one of these on a 2007 S. Was wondering what others do with the original air intake tube. It's not hooked to anything now but I suppose it still supplies air to the engine bay. Leave it there or remove it?

Wait what? Do you mean the tube that is replaced with the kit? Or did you get one for the 11+? Could you please post a picture of what you are talking about. I have the NM intake on my 07 S so I can compare it with my intake.

Do you mean the tube before the OEM filter or the tube between the filter and the turbo.....

If it is the first one, I would let it there, at high speeds it can provide a little bit of fresh air to your filter.

The tube that attached to the bottom of the OEM filter housing.
I've taken the car out and test drove it and stopped it and started it
and no CEL. That's a good sign.

This one takes fresh air behind the grill and take it to the filter on the OEM system. You can get rid of it if you want to clear your engine bay.

Because of the ''open'' system on your CAI, most of the air will come from the engine bay (The OEM system will suck air from the front). When you will get speed with tha CAI and the OEM tube, it will allow some air to go to your filter withouth being heated by your engine. Not a very big difference, but still one.

That answered my stupid queston. Sounds like a personal preference.
I'll just leave it there since at highway speed it should suck some fresh
air in and circulate in the area of the nm CAI.
Thanks for the feedback.
I always say any question is good even if it's a dumb one.
Happy motoring.

I haven't gotten around to taking that tube off yet and I have had mine for almost 2 years. Not a big deal if it stays on or you take it off.

Haven't removed it yet but just ordered a BSH oil catch can from Way. I will remove it when that arrives since I think I'll mount it somewhere in the area of where the inlet tube is hooked up. By the way, the NM is great, no problems what so ever. Just hope I have as good of luck with the OCC install.

Thanks for the pic. Looks about like the way I'm gonna have to hook mine up. Is OCC a BSH? If so, did it come with instructions? I'm pretty sure I know how to hook it up but was hoping the two outlets were labled as to which line goes to which. The install looks great. Like the blue pipe, for some reason I just got the black but now i like the blue.

Its a BSH, all i looked at from the directions was the orientation of the hoses. Be sure to block off the passenger side port since your in vacuum most of the time it will still let gunk through there.

Is that the boost tap you're referring to. If so, now I'm confused. Way said he doesn't install them but some people do order them. Is this the piece that goes toward the left rear of the valve cover? By the way, I really appreciate the info. I'm not a total gearhead but normally I can work around things to a point. This aspect of the mini is kinda new to me. I'm just looking at things to prolong engine life, etc. I don't beat my vehicles at all but I like to get on it once in awhile.

Yes, I made a custom block but it is the same thing. Reason being that if you dont beat on it a lot, you are in vacuum.

Long story short it works like this.

The pcv needs vacuum to work so- Driving around out of boost the gases go through the passenger port

While in boost since the system gets pressurized the pcv gases are routed to the driver port which is in vacuum.(pre compressed air)

Blocking the passenger port forces all gases to pass through the can vs. gases only going through the can when in boost.

Thank you for the excellent explanation of how that all works. I went ahead and ordered the boost tap (wasn't that much more). Hopefully, I'll have everything and installed by the weekend. The car is not running bad at all, no misses, stalls, or anything. Just want to try and keep it that way. Again, thank you for your expertise.
