If you live in oregon please let me know

Well i think i;m going to try to get a company, techtonics tuning, to make a header for the mini. They have much better prices than whats on the market, and they are known in the vw world for being able to make serious power from their headers.

here are a few examples (these are for VWs though..)
 My goal: 220hp without a smaller pulley (ohh i couldn't resist, i got a promini 19% pulley!)

The problem with the header is it has shown little to no gain in hp, even at $375 it's still a little bit on the expensive side for a mod that gives a whole 2whp.

If they came down to $375, I'd still put one on my car!

Great company, remember seeing their stuff years ago when I was into VW's(which are great cars in my opinion) Surely it would make more than 2 hp I hope though.

People that get cylinder heads though can gain from the incresased flow of a header.. Would be interesting to see what this company can do.

you've got the right idea Dan The more modded (higher flow) the engine is, the more benefit you may get out of a higher-flow header. This is why stock MCS's see no HP gain from a header, but highly tuned engines can see a handful of HP.

Cheers,
Ryan

the reality of the situation is that the stock header is restrictive, and no matter what the case is, a free flowing header will always performance better than stock. even if it is only there to relieve some back presure, it is doing a better job than the stock unit does or did do. mandrel bent pipes with smooth correctors are much better than bent pipes with HORRIBLE collectors.

I will be calling TT tuning today to see if i can send them a stock header, so that they can then use to make a jig for a new unit

Didn't Techtonics have some hand in the development of the NRP exhaust?

i had two GTIs before i crossed over to the mini.... and everything Techtonics makes is gold.... nobody can put more HP through exhaust and headers for the GTIs than TT.....

so, if TT puts as much R&D into their header for the Mini (if they make one) as they do for the VW, i'd say buy the COMPLETE exhaust system!!

in fact, i'm going to give them a call and tell them to make a system for the mini cooper s, i think they are sitting on a gold mine....

go TT!

I had a TT exhuat on my '88 Jetta. I loved that exhaust sytem. Price, performance and sound were all great. When I would gun it at a traffic light, the car would scream. It would always turn heads. But, it was never too loud or droning. You could barely hear it cruising down the highway.

I do remember reading somewhere (on their website or in their catalog) that they don't recomend headers for street use. Only for racing. Their opinion is that the poor reliability of a header (they tend to leak when used on a transversely mounted engine) does not offset the performance gain.

I would be tickled pink if they started selling performance parts for the MINI.

That would be great, the current crop of headers is way over the top price wise.
Some people don't think headers make much of a difference power wise.
My thoughts are that this may be true with stock exhaust ports and valves but if those areas are messaged (flowed + larger valves) we will see a very nice increase.
The jury is still out on head developement which will allow headers to do their job.
I expect to see some posts on this subject in a month or two.
