>>"I asked how much M7's car weighed"

>>Well mine weighs in at 2600 lbs. It had the 16" x lites, stock exhuast, and no back seat.

Wow, that's pretty light...the back seat alone must have weighed 100lbs or so. Do you have the sun roof? Probably not. I heard the roof alone is like 80lbs..so take out the back seats, ad a role cage, change the front seats, get lighter wheel and tire combo, get a CF bonnet, roof, AND boot, get some light weight coilovers, change the flywheel, get a good, light, big brake kit, cut up some of the dampening materials they have been talking about...what else could one do?

gas weighs a lot too, most of the fluctuations you see are because of this. I'm pretty sure doug weighed his car with about 1/4 tank or less.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

Peter keep up the good work, you are doing things I would only imagine doing to my Coop if she wasn't my daily driver. I love the 10/10th approach.
For those who are 10/10th this all makes sense. I read for free what you pay to do, how in the world could I complain?

Keep up the good work.

***sigh****another centuries old logical fallacy to be corrected: ad populum.

the truth of a statement is not determined by how many people agree or disagree with it, but on whether it corresponds to reality.

count me in the gang of 4 asking for facts, not hype,

The car was weighed at Englishtown (1/4 mile track in NJ last fall) I was running about a 1/4 tank of gas, and the car with driver wighed in 2840 (yeah i am Fatt Azz) If i could drop another 100 pounds or so that woudl be great but i prefer not to cut up my floor. I may shed a few pounds after modifying the fenders when I put my coil overs on and lower my car a bit more

Me tooooooooooo.

Asking for facts should not be confused with badgering though.]

Would you let your doctor get away with charging you $800 for
a procedure and not being able to explain how it works?

Oh, this $800 procedure increases your harmonic smoothness, and you'll
be the lightest and fastest in your group."

"Oh, I didn't mean that you could actually WEIGH yourself and notice
being lighter. It's smoothness-weight."

That crap is for religions.

Not to hop on a bandwagon or anything, but I'm always happy to read Trippy and Andy's posts. I'm glad that someone has some technical knowledge and is willing to call out the vendors when their claims seem inflated or unsubstantiated. Furthermore, I think that there are an awful lot of people out there who think like this, but choose to keep silent so as not to offend "the higher ups." And no, I'm not just pulling that out of thin air, I'm stating that based on countless conversations that I've had with people in the "real world" regarding this and other MINI-related sites.

Keep up the good work Andy (et alia)!

Word.

New products are good. Facts are good too.

It's totally appropriate to have civil, reasonable challenges to vendors' claims.

On topic: I'm also curious about the specs of the battery that added lightness - there is generally a tradeoff for weight. (if I was curious enough, of course, I'd just go look it up)
I get nervous just drilling holes, so this mod is beyond me, but it is innovative!

Off topic:
In defense of Peter, his sig does qualify the 'fastest and lightest' claim to the SoCal area, so even without absolute numbers, his qualification makes the claim more reasonable.

In defense of the 'doubters', it's not unreasonable to ask for quantitative information when it comes to mods. This is especially true when it comes to Vendors. Since they are in this for money (in addition to the thrill of it all), they do bear a higher standard than bubba standing on the street corner, as their professional status can and will influence would-be customers.

As to why we shouldn't just take vendors at their word, I don't need to post links to all the bilge pump superchargers, fan shaped induction devices, or 'add 20 HP with this box' pieces of _ _ _ _ that some 'vendors' foist on unsuspecting (if stupid) customers.

On 'fastest' - doesn't have to mean 0-60. If Peter is quick at Willow, post a lap time. To be more objective, post a lap time of him in a 'stock' vehicle, then in his modded vehicle.

The reason for pushing back is simple: if claims are challenged, fewer people will make outrageous, unsubstantiated claims, and we'll all have less crap to wade through to get to the good stuff. This goes for small vendors and manufacturers alike. Ford and Mazda both inflated HP claims - people checked, challenged, and eventually got compensated for the difference. That's not gonna happen for the small vendors, so you have to keep them honest upfront. Reasonable, no?

While we are at lets go over to the Disneyland web site and dispute their claims at being the "happiest place on earth" there are about 100 other places I'm happier. Then we can over to Ben and Jerry's and attack them for having the "Worlds best Ice cream" I have had better. LETS SHUT THEM DOWN, FOR THE PURPOSE OF EDUCATION. Then after that if one of TEAM MIGHTY MINIZ dies we can kill all of them because Cooperspeed has it in his SIG. Then we can............Oh wait this is Silly and this is America and mottos are not legally binding. Peter is not selling his car as the lightest and fastest it just a motto. Is the person who has the dancing banana sig acually a banana that dances lets badsger them till they tell us. This started out as a look what I did thread and ended in a lets attack Peter because of his sig. I learned sooooooo much because of this line of questioning( badgering). In court rooms there are rules on how to ask questions and lines you can't cross to get info. because it doesn't accomplish anything(sort of like Andy) Trippy I must say most of your recent post have been more positive and move things in the right direction than in the past. questioning without badgering or attacks, I'm impressed.
(I'm serious)

Yes, Yes your on to something here, lets do it. I know for a fact Disneyland is NOT the happiest place on earth and Ben and Jerry's is NOT the best ice cream, let's shut them down for false advertising. Cooperspeed did it, he spelled the DOOM for TMM with his careless sig line. You here that, DOOM on you, DOOM on you. Peter CAN'T be the lightest and fastest in SoCal, there are crotch rockets in SoCal and they're lighter AND faster. His sig said nothing about lighter and faster than what. SO THERE, DOOM on you, DOOM on you. Really folks I don't believe the PB works at all but jeez, I like SOME of Peter's stuff and if I was a racecar builder I would be one of his best customers. Just remember the dodo's from Ice Age.........DOOM on you.........DOOM on you...............I would like a little more user friendly data from time to time.

Damn people get a life! Its only a car...seems like some of you like to challenge all the claims a vendor makes just to stir up trouble. Call peter if you have a problem or better yet come to Vegas and see all the products he offers with your own 2 eyes...if you don't like it don't buy it. Simple as that.

Does it make you nerds feel big and bad to argue over the internet over something as insignificant as a sig line? Whoa I better check my spelling cause god forbid I spell something wrong

Lets argue over this one next.

We are only trying to get hard data. Which after 2 plus pages was finally given.
When I added a 17% pulley to my car people said i would blow it up. I proved them wrong by taking it to the track and posting faster times (to show i was running it hard) auto crossed it, and put over 1000 miles week on the car. then i dyno tested it and provided air fuel ratio's. That is Hard data.

And yes i want a medal or a cookie....lol

When in doubt, Choose the burrito
OK now lets argue about this one...

Why should I choose a burrito over a hamburger? What does a burrito have that will benefit me more? Why if beans make me gasy? How many calories does that burrito have? How many grams of fat? etc etc...

I kid I kid!!!

I would think that if someone was questioning something I've said and I had the information to prove myself right, I would offer that information for everyone to see.

I personally don't care either way, be the fastest, be the second fastest, be the slowest, but you have to consider this: When you became a sponsor, you stopped being just another enthusiast on this board. People read your posts and consider you a subject matter expert because you market and sell products to them. When you fail to provide a silly thing like a lap time to justify the purchase of your products, it makes people skeptical.

I also understand that a lot of your products cannot be measured in a typical gearhead way, the ole dyno sheet. Sometimes a little faith in a product comes from the faith that the vendor instills in it. When the vendor doesn't provide information to instill that faith, you'd have to think that the product wouldn't be successful.

I work in the V-22 program, doing test and evaluation on a highly public and often criticized aircraft. I enjoy asking the why and how everytime I have an engineer try and shove a concept at me. If you can't answer the why and how questions, how can you justify marketing a product just because?

If you fill your tires with helium, you reduce the unsprung and rolling weight
and it adds TWO new dimentions to the driving experience!

"I've never driven a MINI that handled quite like this one" said my
friend the first time he drove it!

(Just teasing you Peter. Remember, ANY publicity is good publicity)

Peter -

It's obvious that you have compromised the crash worthiness of this vehicle to the extent that it should be immediately dissassembled and carted piece by mutilitated piece as far away from canyon country as possible.

You do realize that you are compromising the safety of you, your passengers and your unborn children. You should immediately have your attorney draw up a consent form fro future passengers.

(:

BTW, how many psi were you able to remove from the rear tires, did you adjust the downforce of the wing and after all of this does it rotate any better?
