Fact of the matter is that Peter's mods aren't easily measurable, as they're not power mods. They're designed to make the car handle better, and in order to assess that, we'd have to have access to a measured skidpad and a slalom course. The closest we could get would be a GTECH, but those are supposedly somewhat inaccurate. I'd say Peter passing a 911 GT3 through a sweeper at Willow Springs is a pretty good indicator of how well his products perform.

I disagree, what does that have to do with the effectiveness of a given mod? How about lap times compared with and without the wing, with no other changes? The fact is that M7 has numerous products that tout performance gain, but there has been little to no evidence of what this gain is. If you want to market a rear wing by saying it makes your car look cooler, well, that's a subjective measure in the eye of the beholder. If you want to market a rear wing by saying it applies downforce at track speeds and improves tract times, doesn't it make sense to show some evidence to back that up?

Ladies ladies LADIES...

what is it that many of you have against M7? I have nothing but good things to say about their products...even the Plazma booster..

Lightest, fastest, coolest (in my case Meanist) are all claims that can easily be demonstrated (not always proven) so Peter, just to make some people happy, why don't you get a Gtechpro Competition thingy. This device will measure your HP, Torque, 0-60, 1/4 miles, deceleratrion, Gs, will act as a shifter light, etc... and is only about 200 bucks...it will add about .097523lbs to the car, but you can always remove it when you want to reclaim the title:P...and best thing about this device is that there are no wires, you just input total weight of car, arrange some parameters, et voila

Why is it that people who ask for objective proof of a products benefits are cast as the villians?

Or do you all buy performance mods without knowing how much performance you are getting?

I think we need those people to stand up and voice their doubts to keep vendors honest, however, more often than not, it seems like Andy, Trippy and a few others are just on a crusade to casue grief.

I mean reallly, what are you guys doing? You've gone from what I thought was trying to help some of the "uneducated" Mini motorers in making good decisons about products, to down right annoying.

You seem to have a lot of knowledge--why don't you use it for something good? I'd rather get good, friendly advice from a vendor, even if he's off a few HP on his claim, than read through smart *** comments, belittling vendors and casting doubts on their products.

JBOO,

If you'd prefer to get your information from friendly vendors, why do you read posts here? I can't speak for Trippy, but I enjoy asking questions of vendors and I learn in the process. Certainly I'm not "on a crusade to cause [un-Sic] grief". If vendors posted only their claims and were never questioned on anything, this wouldn't be a discussion board. This would be one big vendor announcement board with locked replies. Personally, I'm glad that it's not.

I truly am interested in many of the products that M7 has announced like the supercharger replacement, the turbo kit for the Cooper (not for myself, but still interested in the subject). I just want to see real evidence rather than "this feels good", "this makes the car smoother", "this mod gets you more chicks". I want to know how much more hp, and how many chicks (and how hot are the chicks?).

So, in summary, feel free to disregard any and all posts by myself or others with whom you disagree, but I'm not going away and I'll continue to question outlandish claims and will continue to ask for data.

Hey everyone,

I think people are getting carried away a bit. This thread was originally about weight savings, and Peter did post the pounds saved. It seems what some here are taking exception to is Peter's claim of being the fastest and lightest in So Cal. My opinion is that with all the work Peter is doing to lighten the MINI (and also the performance mods he creates too) that he has earned that saying. That plus his driving expertise that many have commented on along with his own heavily modded car (lightened he has said rather than engine mods), with the canyon runs he makes where he leaves the other super cars behind, which others have substantiated, etc. I think of this saying as basically just an interesting signature. When I first saw the signature I did not believe it to be literally true, but having heard more about it all, I don't doubt that it probably is true. Anyway, it's just a signature. What we all can agree on is Peter's quest for more performance from the MINI, and we all can benefit from that.

Andy-

Like I said in my post, questions are good and keep vendors some people honest. However most times, especially with M7 and sometimes Randy, it seems like your out to get them or only prove them wrong.

Again, you have knowledge--use it for the good of NAM. If I, and others, have to disregard your posts--then you're not helping as much as you could.

JBOO,

Thanks for your concern, I am flattered that you devoted a sizeable percentage of your posts here to complaining about me.

When vendors who should know better post erroneous information or a blatant lack of information about their products, I will continue to point that out. If you disagree with that, as I said before, feel free to disregard my posts. I will have to live with the knowledge that you are not being helped as much as you feel you should be.

Quick show of hands: How many of us are actually going to take a sawzall or plasma cutter to the back floor pan of our MINIs?

Yep, I didn't think so. I do not doubt that it lightens the car by 20-30 pounds. But what does it do to the structural rigidity of the chassis? The rear end crash protection?

This mod is fine for a track only car, but I sure wouldn't do it for my daily driver. Maybe it's because my last daily driver (VR6 Jetta) was done in by being rear ended by a Ryder truck. Or maybe because I'd like to avoid rattles as long as possible.

It may have been here or on Mini2, but there was one guy who got absolutely barbecued for cutting out a lot of the support for the front bumper in an effort to reduce the weight of the car. This mod falls into the same category.

No matter, thanks are due to Peter for showing us what is possible, even if you personally are not going to do the same.

I took a hacksaw to my key. Does that count?

It added over 5 HP of smoothness IMMEDIATELY!!!

In this case, at least, I don't think M7 was posting about a product. As for the the "fastest and lightest", its a sig line, isn't it.

Yep, you are correct. If you re-read this thread, I asked how much M7's car weighed. When he didn't know, I brought up the signature.

He did that to minimize the key size. The top of the key is still left ona key chain so the chip can be used. I thought it was a very good mod, and I give that credit to Trippy. I didn't know it added only 5hp, I thought it added 15whp...

Andy......

The reason I didn't weigh in my car yet is obvious.....It's a work in progress, I'm taking parts of and adding lighter
components every day. I'm STREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEATCHING the envelope to see how far we can take it.....

i like the mod as i am interested in a supertrap muffler (cheaper and lighter) and having it be a straight pipe seems better. it seems to me that the boot floor is plastic but im not sure. if it is i doubt mucn structural rigidity would be lost. ive already sawed a bigger hole in the back of the intake, so maybe the boot will be next.

I'm sorry for comming up with Ideas for you guy's to see and contemplate......
But it is getting really tiresome to alway get smacked in the head over every little detail I'm doing.

Would you rather have me do nothing?????????

Have me push the envelope so you don't have to ???????

This mod was for me, not for you or your brother or friend I just wanted to share. :???:

PS. my car weighed in at 2720lbs when we started.

First, thanks for posting your car's weight. Mine currently weighs about that since it is in "Winter mode". In "Racing mode", mine weighs 2612 lb:

2733 lb
- 64 lb (wheels/tires -vs- stock 17&quot
- 50 lb (all the interior stuff I yanked before weighing)
- 7 lb (Magnaflow -vs- stock)
2612 lb
