Invidia Q300 Exhaust System Emission Issues/Failure
So I have been searching for a thread for awhile now, where someone has bought and installed the Invidia Q300 exhaust system and they went for their emission test on the East Coast, preferably in MD. But after looking for a specific thread for about a week now, I have just decided to start my own thread and see what I come up with.
I would like to know if you passed or failed your emissions test do to the fact that the 2nd catalytic converter as been eliminated in the Invidia Q300 Exhaust System. Please tell me your story if you have; so that I can either prepare myself for the pass or fail ahead. I will probably purchase this system anyway as from reading about what other people have said it seems to be well built, durable, gives just under 10 hp, and is reasonably priced for a MINI modification. Let me know if they actually looked for the 2nd cat and did a sniffer test or they just did a sniffer test or they just looked at it. I do remember reading in one of the threads on here that there is no O2 sensor in the 2nd cat, so no codes should go off, but if the employees at the emissions testing center knows that there's supposed to be a 2nd cat regardless then they will most definitely look for it.
The other things I have read on this forum is that the JCWs do not have a 2nd cat on there system, that they just have a pre-cat or one cat in the downpipe. So I would be curious to find out what emissions does to people that own a JCW.
So it will be a hassle, but I will probably just put my stock system back on when I go for testing, pass the test, and then put my after market on after the testing is over. If I am not mistaken emissions testing in MD is every 4 years, don't hold me to it, but whats the big deal of swapping a system every 4 years.
We'll see. Thanks to all who reply in advance.

The 2nd cat is not required for emissions. If it was required you'd have an o2 sensor after it...
I believe it is just there to help pass emissions immediately after a cold start.
Not sure how strict your state is, but should not be an issue at all. Here in AZ we don't need to get tested until 5 years, and even then...they just plug into OBD. A catless car could pass as long as it has no codes!

Here in md, you get tested every 2 years. However, they just plug into the diag port and see if the check engine light is on and the required tests have run and passed.
You will have no problems with emissions with that exhaust.

ThumperMCS & e30r56,
Thanks for responding or commenting quickly on the matter. I will be purchasing the Q300 next Monday from either JSC Speed or StreetRays. I am not sure which one is more reliable to purchase from especially since JSC Speed is selling them for $644.99 and StreetRays is selling it for $557.00. Almost a $100.00 difference. But like Thumper knows he is the one that got me to decide to purchase the Q300 because of the price, durability, sound, and the fact the you just have to connect it to the down-pipe. Basically that there is no cutting involved. So overall it seems like the best buy. Thanks Thumper!
As for e30r56, thanks for your comment as well. Where are you in relation to living in MD, if you don't mind posting it on here or you could just pm me? Our you involved in any of the clubs in MD? I am part of the Central MINI Motorist Club.

e30r56,
I just noticed that you live in Lanham. I lived there until 2001. I lived off of 4th Street, on 93rd Ave. Down the street from Seabrook Barber shop. Where are you in relation to that. Would be cool to meetup.

So deleting the second cat won't fail emission? would it make the exhaust too loud or just a tad loud if you delete the second cat? also will you gain a bit of hp since it's less restrective?
thanks..
thanks..
2) Won't change the volume or hp all that much (if any at all). Deleting the main cat is a different story though...
