How can I modify my MINI to get an exhaust burp, burble, rumble, pop with downshift?

Just this week I had to get my MINI to the dealer for some warranty work. They gave me a loaner 2011 MCS with an automatic trans. Nothing really sparked my interest in this car UNTIL I hit the SPORT button. Suddenly I heard the exhaust burble when I approached a stop light when the trans downshifted. I played with this a little bit and I have to admit that I absolutely LOVE this feature! The MINI would burble and pop when downshifting. It was not a loud sound. Actually, I had to turn down the radio to hear the noise. It just sounded amazing! I have to believe that this is simply a tune issue. Does anybody know how to tune a MINI to enable this feature?

Yes it is in the tune...and there are tuners that know how to do it, but its not ready for the masses yet.

It's amazing how many people go nuts over the burble/pop on the R56 when they took it away in 2007. And on the R53 was the complete opposite, people always complaining that their car was "popping and backfiring"

I have a jcw exhaust and riss racing dp and it pops every time I shift. If I hold the revs stable for a few secs then shift it’s so loud, like a gunshot. What I mean is if I accelerate to around 3000rpm then hold it there for a sec or 2 then shift, BANG! I love it.

I emailed my service advisor about this the other day and he said that several people had asked and he was looking into it but as of now Mini hasn't incorporated it into any software updates. He's supposed to be keeping an eye out for me.

*shrug* I went for the '05/06 model range when I found out they all have the burble and better supercharger parts.

I love that car! I was watching the in gear acceleration while waiting for my RMW tune to arrive and getting excited. I love the intake sound too.

We just did it on mine 230458843 tunes back, kinda by accident....he doesn't do it on his tunes normally. That tune worked decently but had some funky drivability issues, so we nixed the burble. It was fun while it lasted though

Yes the sport button does it if you have a 2011. If its 07 to 10 then we're just SOL.

I put on a SuperTrap muffler, it's tunable by adding or removing discs. By adding discs which decreased back preasure my power and boost preasure went up and the pop got louder . If you removed too much back preasure, even with a turbo, you loose some low end and the pop kind of goes away. But yes you need to hold the rpm for a second or so then lift fast and you get the pop. Also on deacceleartions you get the low throat roar. My thoughts on the supertrap was to see is the restriction that the turbo blades cause on the exhaust enough to provide the back preasure the engine wants in order not to loose low end torque but with less restriction increase the volume of exhaust that is moving by the turbo, the answer is no, need some additonal back preasure. Left the CAT in and the resonators in, since without the muffler there isn't enough back preasure I figure the other stuff was not restrictive enough to make a diff.
