don't do it, just take off the nuts, do not unscrew the threaded rods. Follow the instruction on the Alta web site for the downpipe/exhaust change, they are much better than the Akrapovic instructions. Once you get the nuts removed from the flange area, remove the lower nuts hoding the downpipe to the frame under the car.

So the akrapovic is the way to go if you've got the proper tuning capabilities? I see alta has discontinued their DPs.. I also like the fact its stainless over the ED downpipes.. although I'd probably just take it and have it coated locally.. Thoughts?

Great ... however, I don't know anyone in the area (bay area, ca) that has this thing installed.

If anyone reading this is in the bay and the DP installed, please PM me!
I'll even pay for lunch.

Akrapovic DP + oem tune = power/torque gain

How or why would you think that one would have power loss?

Too bad Alta hasn't found time to tune the N18 engine. I would love the full Akrapovic system, but....

I had the Akrapovic DP and a res delete done today on my JCW. This was done at a custom exhaust shop. Same place BigMINIAl had his Riss down pipe fixed.

This is what I noticed on my 15 minute ride home, Its loud, smelly and there is a drone at highway speed when I have my foot on the gas to maintain speed.

I do not mind that its loud. Will the drone and the smell go away after a few days? Does it get better?

yes the smell goes away. I don't think the drone will go away as it is caused by removing your resinator, that was it's purpose, to remove drone.

I took a ride with Al a few weeks ago. I was the guy that took the video. We drove on local streets. Maybe that is why I did not notice the drone.

Precisely. I wouldn't have removed the resonator. If you had done this even with the factory DP you would get drone.

But I only hear the drone at highway speeds. Did not notice this on Al's setup and he is catless. I am not.

Aren't you using the stock JCW exhaust? I'm surprised you're getting so much drone with that setup even without the resonator.

I get drone as well but I'm using a Magnaflow without a res, so it's not surprising at all with that setup. I am surprised that you're experiencing it though to such an extent with your setup.
