Drivetrain Short Shifter
no, i have been scouring the net for cheap cool bolt ons for my MCS, and no short shifter yet, but i would think you could take it to a local machine shop and cut it down, but i havent seen the shifter itself yet.
I have been working on a short list of MINI mods of which you can find some on my site hackersrepairs.com once I take my S off the road for the winter I was going to look into both a short shifter and a reverse lockout, personally I prefer a lockout before the shorter shift. Maybe that's just me feedback welcome.
i was curious as to the purpose ofthe reverse lockout? i have a obvious idea from the name, but wasnt sure.

I hace found myself accidently backing up after a hurried shift on more than one occasion. A lockout would prevent this embarressment. An extra Idiot light tied into the backup lamps might be another approach. Also making it a habbit to alwayg go to 2nd gear before 1st will assure the propper gate. Again maybe it's just me!

I just got the exact measurements for these guys (had to find a micrometer) and they are going to ship me a 'sample'
they are going to do satin or polished finish with and without the shift pattern

When I first got my MINI, I kept putting it in the wrong gear when I wanted reverse, as it's on the other side then my old car's tranny..
But with the bit of resistance it takes to get into reverse, there's been no problems here...

The original thread/question was posted in 02, amazing how far we have come .eh? Alta makes one, B&M makes one ,and there are a bunch of bolt-ons produced, that don't require the removal of the whole magilla.I have the B&M and I must say I DO love it (imagine some one actually saying "why would you want a short shifter"!?!?
