You're right, I think I was just trying to be conservative since I didn't actually time it. I know the first part of the install where the current ECU map is downloaded took about 2 minutes, but switching maps was probably 45 seconds.

Just stumbled accross something and I thought I'd see what yall thought.

Not to contradict what you said woodster or what alta's graph show, bc I'm sure yall know more about the mini than I do being that I'm new to this scene . But the graphs linked below would fall more in line with what I posted earlier about what I assumed my JCW whp would be based off of factory crank claims:

Run #2 on the graph:

What you think? I know mustang dynos can be a bit conservative on the hp numbers but thats a good bit off. I know the AP is new but it'd be nice to see someone on here post some dyno numbers of their own.

I've hear of the mustangs being called heart breakers. However, I have personally witnessed JCW on a dynajet - hp was 203 and tq was 208 - this was not my personal JCW. We've seen the numbers from the dynapacks being similar to the dynajets. Perhaps the JCW on the mustang wasn't up to par with the avg JCW we've seen dynoed. They do vary.

I dynoed my personal Alta AP tuned car yesterday on a dynapack - same as alta uses. It feels like it is putting out what the dyno says. I can break the tires loose in 3rd gear just by mashing the gas from a slow roll. These are those heavy a$$ jcw rims w/runflats.

Whichever dyno you want to believe, it is the huge difference in the before and after that count. They should also have the same difference on a mustang - just on a slightly lower scale.

Actually, the AccessPORT device has been around for a long time....it has just recently started being used for MINIs though. I've had one since July 24th but then I got a test one early as I've been providing feedback on the automatic maps before they get released to the general public. You are correct about this thread though, it was started on the day ALTA released the AP device for the masses, except those with automatics.

Now that I can see taking a couple of minutes.

I've posed this question to them in an email. Think of this way. The JCW tune is, in it self an ECU flash. So the AP is taking the car back to stock and flashing it with the stage 1 flash. According to the email reply I got from Chris, this plus the FMIC I am goin to have installed, will take it up to Factory JCW performace levels. It kinda of sucks that we spent all that money on the kit and now the JCW kit is just 1900 dollars for some badges, cat back muffler and CAI. I'm going to go ahead and pull the trigger ond get the FMIC and AP. I just need to find a local shop that will install the FMIC. although i'm sure it is an easy job, I really donn't want to do it myself.

I can't see what car you have, but no doubt you will be happy with the gains!

Looking forward to hearing your initial impressions.

Just got the AP for my 2007 Cooper S with an Alta catback, helix FMIC, and DDMworks Race intake. Alta doesn't have the tune ready yet for our 91 octane gas in CA. Anyone tried mixing 100 octane with 91 to get about 93 in a MINI?

YMMV - I Googled "boost 91 octane" and one of the first sites I opened was http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/9...ifference.html There was a question about the 91 octane in CA. Here is one reply: "Toluene" is the best octane booster. Add a gallon of "Toluene" and you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Go to your local Sherman Williams (or similar paint store) and purchase "Toluene", pronounced: "Tall-U-Wen" or most commonly, "Tall-U-Lean".

Toluene or "methylbenzene" is 114 octane and is pure "aromatic" hydrocarbon (C7H8) and burns very cleanly. I've been running it for some time now in my S4 and there are absolutely no side effects but I would not recommend going over 30% mixture or you may have problems starting your car. If you do wish to run over a 30% mixture you need to add about 12 ounces of tranmission fluid, per additional gallon for lubrication purposes.

Toluene is approximately $8.50/gallon and you can purchase it in 1 gallon cans or 5 gallon drums.

Fill-Up Procedure: When your tank is near empty, first add Toluene, then fill-up with regular gas.

Here's a quick conversion assuming filling-up 14 gallons total:

1 gallon Toluene, 13 gallons 91 cr@ptane: ~92.6 Octane
2 gallons Toluene, 12 gallons 91 cr@ptane: ~94.3 Octane
3 gallons Toluene, 11 gallons 91 cr@ptane: ~95.9 Octane
4 gallons Toluene, 10 gallons 91 cr@ptane: ~97.6 Octane
5 gallons Toluene, 9 gallons 91 cr@ptane: ~99.2 Octane
6 gallons Toluene, 8 gallons 91 cr@ptane: ~100.9 Octane

The end result is you make more power, the car is smoother and more refined. On my S4 I see a 20+hp increase between 91 and 94 octane. Yes, it's that much of a difference. You also get a bit better gas mileage.

You can also run "Xylene" which is 115 octane but doesn't burn as cleanly and costs a dollar more per gallon. I would stick with Toluene.

Finally, Toluene is very safe because it is one of the main octane boosters used by oil companies in producing gasoline of all grades. So if toluene is harmful to your engine, your engine would have went bye-bye a long time ago since ordinary pump gasoline can contain as much as 50% aromatic hydrocarbons.

Hope this helps.

P.S. I run 1 gallon of Toluene per fill-up and it's done wonders. I go from being even with E46 M3s to slowly walking them. That's a big difference. So you modded TTs can go from running even with Murcielagos to slowly walking them."

I would do alot more searching but this is a start. My daughter just moved to Newport Beach and during my last visit, tons of exotic cars were out on the road. I would think most of them would require something greater than 91 octane. Good luck

AP's have been around for a long time. I remember buying the original AP for my 04 WRX back in 2004 just a few weeks after the whole idea was released. I then proceeded to run a Version II AP on my 07 and 08 STi's. I've always been very happy with the product. I'm glad they've come this way now

I am in the same boat. I ordered mine this morning I was told the 91 octane map should be available in about a week. I am glad that Alta got this product out and don't mind waiting a bit more.

I'm sure I can wait a week or so too, but it will be tough. I just got the FMIC installed today and the AccessPort is just sitting in the garage taunting me. Should be lots of fun once they release the 91octane tune. If it's much more than a week off, I'd consider some sort of octane booster to use the 93octane tune in the interim. I'm intrigued by the suggestion to add toluene as an octane booster. I've only ever used toluene for cleaning laser optics.

Toluene is very effective as an octane booster...I remember a lot of B5 Audi S4 guys running it

Be careful though, it is nasty stuff

Regarding toluene, don't get it on your paint!

91 Octane

I've been testing tunes for Jeff related to 91 Octane over the past two weeks and we think we have these wrapped up. I evaluated these under extreme conditions, heat-soaked the car and IC, and ran the car in 108-109 degree temps under high load for extended periods (read this as WOT from 40 MPH to 120 MPH with the engine and IC as hot as possible). Clearly our concern was detonation and our logs indicated where minor tweaks were required to ensure this did not occur on a de-carboned MINI running 91 octane fuel.

I sent my last log to Jeff yesterday on what appears to be the final map. I expect Jeff will release these maps very soon.

Great news. I'm sure the 120 MPH runs were on a track (wink wink). If it's this close to being ready, I can certainly wait for the 91 octane tune to be released rather than using some sort of octane booster.

07 R56s Ap

Hi guys and gals. As my sig shows I'm a big supporter of Alta. I j got the AP a couple of weeks ago. You see the dealer was having a fit keeping my car from throwing a Cel saying my Cat was running inefficient. When I called Jeff to talk about the cat he first taught me how to diagnose the cat and then talked to me about the AP. At the time the dealer had removed my $1k+ custom DynoComp tune and returned my ecu to stock. To make a long post short. Jeff figured out that the dealer had not reflashed my ecu to stock *as written on the invoice, but had instead updated my ecu to the latest greatest MINI software. Jeff didn't have anything ready for the 8-10 cars, but he quickly got me up and running with 3 tunes that started good and have been getting better and better. We still have some more tunes before everything is going to be all buttoned up, but it is getting really close and holy moley hang on to your britches. It's worth every penny. With the custom tune (I will post the
dyne sheets if you like) I was getting 293 to the wheels and 303 in torque and 30+ mpg. But I think I got ripped off on the custom tune, I think it was a WOT tune and not what the AP is trying to achieve. I know I didn't have the kind of throttle response I get from the AP.

Those numbers are huge - which would be worth $1000 - are you saying it wasn't a linear progression to those peak values? With 303 tq, it seems there would be power everywhere...
