2003 Mini R50 Hood Cowl vents

The foam is about gone in my cowl vents, is there replacement foam for these? Has any one tried using dark plastic screen door mesh instead, any other ideas.

thanks

I used stainless gutter screen material. Any decent tin snip or a good garden trimmer scissor cuts it. I've used the same materiel to replace the plastic inserts in the back bumper with a 'steel mesh'. If you have cutters this mod is about $4

I used window screen mesh for mine.. Not too hard to do. I used metal because that is what I had laying around, but I think the fiberglass mesh would have been easier to work with.

What exactly does the screen mesh do? Is it necessary for it to be replaced?

Regards

Get the 2005-2006 OEM facelift vents, they do away with that foamy mesh that comes with the 2002-2004 which breaks apart and looks awful.

They are also much nicer looking

Right below the windshield wipers are two cowl vents - the foam in mine has rotted away. Over the weekend I purchased some Stainless Screen, cut it to size and inserted in the vent looks great. If this does not hold up I will purchase the new version, thanks Broadwayline.

Ok new question, I had the wheels off to clean all the brake dust off the back. When I had the front driver's wheel out I noticed I have a cracked
fender liner right next to my driving light connections. How hard is it to replace that part?

Bumping an old thread with a related question. Is the foam the only thing under these vents? I just got an R50 and it looks like rain/water can just drip right onto the ABS unit. Am I missing something under there to shield that?
