well its been a couple of days now since i had the pully and intake and plugs done on my mini s, it has over 50,000 miles now and has had nor one problem with the engine,

just recentley the engine would gag once in a while after the mod but would perform wonderfully most of the time

just today was the kicker it was 25 degrees ouside and i got in the car and started it and as i was taking of thier where small surges when accelerating then all of a sudden bam the car was gagging consistentley like it was running out of fuel and almost stalled then the check engine soon light came on and now wont go off

any ideas out their of this happining is it just the severe cold and such or could it be deeper than that any word would be great

thanks a billion

You know, I'm half asleep at the moment, but I would check the obvious and easy stuff first, like making sure the wires are securely connected. I suppose that it could be some bad gas as well. Does it idle ok, or is the sputtering only under acceleration?

It was 25 degrees outside and your gas tank was low....

Sounds like it might have started to freeze?

thats what it sounds like to me, try some gas line anti-freeze stuff (dry gas)

sounds like your gas line is a little frozen
fine at an iIdle, but once you start moving the kar requires more gas (put in some dry gas)

Just a comment. I owned a Toyota MR2 awhile back and when the fuel pump quit working that's exactly what it did. Would start and idle but no power what so ever. I could drive it a few MPH to limp home (idle in 1st gear). Your problem definetly sounds fuel related. Best of luck. Let us know what they find.

Did I read somewhere recently that you should keep your tank above 1/2 in the winter because the lower the amount of fuel the more condesation can build up and freeze?

I know there are several types of "Dry Gas". Now understand I',m a mechanical moron. Some would say just a moron in general. Whatever. I was warned that some types of DRY GAS depending on what thee base was could cause the fuel lines to deteriorate.

Is this true? Not the moron part ,the additive question.

I usually avoid the additives and just keep the tank topped off.

The freezing point of gasoline is around -70 degrees. I don't think your gas is freezing but there culd be water vapor in your tank.

UPDATE well i went out side and started it took forever to heat up today man it #$%%$#@ cold today well anyway i took it out after complete warm up and it drove fine the ses light is still on i think i may have to have the dealer reset it,

acually does it need resetting or is their still a problem going on, i was wondering if its like the air bag light and just needs to be reset after going off,

it drove great except for just at acceleration i could hear the intake going
woo.....woo...wooo....wooo and so on untill i came to a stop its like a yo yo effect on the throtel but i havent had a yoyo prob

so if it was the fuel i drove a while to get things moving and it seems ok now but let me know if i should get it looked at!!!

thanks all of you youve been great

Have you ever lived up North? Freezing gas lines aren't a myth. I've had them freeze on me in 11 F.

It's not the gas itself that freezes; it's the impurities that can accumulate and settle at the bottom of your tank that freeze.

Is freezing in, and/or a stopped up fuel filter a possibility?

The check engine light can be reset by disconnecting the battery for a min or so then reconnecting.....if it comes on agin thers something going on, but there are many reasons for check engine light, so dont get to scared, but definatly dont ignore it either, it could be partially from the possible freezing lines discussed, and the computer not knowing how to handle it, but there again i dont live in the cold so im not sure how all that effects the ecu.... but hopefully you can reset the ecu and no more check engine light now....

i've had older BMWs exibit similar symptoms when there was a vacuum leak between the airbox and the intake. you might want to check your plumbing there, it almost sounds like something got loose or disconnected. i have no idea if this is relevant to a Mini engine.

ymmv

you need to keep more fuel in your tank, every time we go for pizza we have to put fuel in your tank...lol.it could have froze a bit if there was some water in there. keeping a full tank is good but never let it get below a 1/4 tank in the winter, 1/2 if can afford it. put in some dry gas too to get any water in the tank. and you know now that you have 50,000 you should think about a fule filter. see if it gets better and then "give your dealera call" or ryan at nologo mootorsports a call and we can fix it.

You have an EXCELLENT point. Even the best can loosen something after a jack-up pulley change. Stick your head in there and make sure that every wire and hose is attached and secure.
