Drivetrain Unichip question
Unichip question
Hey peeps,
So I got a used unichip. I sent it to them to get it mapped.
I see it has 2 switches and a red light. 1 switch has 2 red/yellow wires and the other switch has 2 yellow wires. What are those and what does the light mean? It's never on btw

If I remember right, from one of the guys that talked about having a Unichip, when you install it, you have 2 choices of the amount of timing advance, basicly for 91/93 octane....
Not 100% sure, but so many folks have toyed with Unichips, somebody should chime in!!

I think they are usually supposed to switch between maps.?
I know mine had one switch, and if I switched it the car just wouldnt do anything lol... so it was obviously not programmed. Basically was ECU on/off.

When they work, they work good. I have had one on my 06 S since 07 and its still rockin. Contact Unichip directly for questions or support. ALTA has not sold the Unichip products since fall-ish of 08.
We tried this particular Unichip in question, my own paperweight comments aside, on my own Mini. I tried both switches, to no effect according to my butt dyno, and the red light was never on.

When you kick a cow pat, expect flies...
I had a Unichip for a year or so. I even sent it back to Unichip to get reprogrammed. Mine had 2 switches: one to switch between maps for different octane ratings. The other was supposed to turn on some programmed feature, such as a sprayer for the IC at a particular rpm or load, but it wasn't implemented.
Neither of the switches worked. And neither did the Unichip for that matter...
Since then I've had an RMW tune and a Mynes tune. Both worked!
