Intercooler sprayer

However, before I attempt, can anyone tell me the proper sized tubing that goes to the rear windshield nozzle? I know Mini Madness has a product out now but I cant see myself spending that much.

Additionally, if the nozzle is placed below the reservoir, is there a chance that it will just leak the whole time? The nozzle that I have has a fairly small opening but if I were to fill it with water, invert it, it would leak.

thanks!

After getting absolutely no replies on this thread, I decided to go and try it anyway.

Here is my bracket that i bent/drilled to accommodate tubing and nozzle.

Now with nozzle and tubing

This is after i mounted it on the inside of the front bumper. Nozzle pointing towards FMI (camera)

Underneath the bumper. Only two holes had to be drilled, I used a torque bolt and washer.

right b4 I mounted the front bumper back on... this is looking down.

SOOO... results? Here is the problem. I need the help of NAM because i didnt get any response last time. The windshield washer reservoir sits right behind the driver seat fender. When pulling the fender out, you can see at the pump, there is a left and right nozzle (your left/your right). The left one clearly goes up to the windshield, so i tapped into the right one one and routed it the fmi sprayer. After starting the car up, and activated the rear washers and got nothing. No spray, not even the motor wiirrrr'ing. So here is my question.

Did i tap it from the wrong pipe? I have a rear windshield delete where i ended up plugging the pipe. I have accidentally turned on the rear windshield while it was plugged, so did i do damage to the pump? The interesting thing is, there is only 1 motor for both rear and front windshield (i think) but the front windshield works fine.
Additionally, I cant hear the motor when I activate the rear windshield washer.
Lastly, I cut the front windshield line and tapped it to the fmi sprayer tubing just to test the thing and the moment i did, fluid was pouring out of the line (one way valve required). when i cut the line that i thought was the rear windshield (the right one), the tube did no leak and was bone dry.

Can anyone confirm that you can hear the pump/motor when activating the rear windshield washer? Does it sound like its coming from the front, or from the back (by the rear windshield)
If anyone knows where I have to tap, it would be so much appreciated.

thanks

edit: i unplugged the rear windshield washer tube, activated the rear washers, and got nothing. No motor buzzing. No jet of washer fluid.

Im not sure but maybe you tapped into your headlight washers? If you have them....

Another thought is that the pump for the rear washer might be closer to the rear of the car even though it uses the same reservoir.

maybe it was the headlight washers...

But there is only two lines coming out. another is a washer level sensor + control wires.... no other piping that I see.

So aggravating, my front bumper is still off the car.

Can anyone tell me if they in fact have a motor sound when activating the rear windshield washers and where its coming from?

To test if its your headlight washers, turn on your headlights then see if it spays. Your headlight washers only work with your lights on.

thats a good question.

realoem doesnt seem to show anything 'to rear' or whatever

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partgrp.d...31&hg=61&fg=45

I do see that "double wash pump"...wonder if it somehow can switch to different lines??? Got to either be a 3rd pump or the one pump does double duty (it seems the headlights get an auxillary pump)

yeah... the first time that real oem let me down.

Do any of you guys get a buzzing sound when activating rear washers? Cuz if you do, that will eliminate a lot of my guess work.

See this is what confuses the crap out of me. The front windshield sprayer works which is powered by the same pump as the rear. If its a fuse related issue, than neither the front and rear should work.

true...unless there is a relay or something... depends on the pump... it either spins the other way somehow or it has a valve in it??

so i checked the head light washers and those are connected to the hood washers.

The other line (right line) is definately the one that is suppose to go to the rear. Still cannot get it to turn on.

I checked my fuses, both in the engine compartment and the front passenger foot wells. There was no separate fuse for the rear sprayers. However there was two for the rear wiper (not sure why)

regardless, I reinstalled the bumper (much easier than removing). Will upload pic from the front. the nozzles are barely visiable and is currently aiming right into the intercooler. Now if only i can figure out wat the freak is wrong.

....rear wiper delete,.....
probably your problem. im guessing you unplugged some stuff and now that circuit is probably left open, and thus not pumping... You probably need the motor hooked up or something. Or maybe there are electronics on what you took out

I might just end up replacing the double wash pump at some point. It doesnt make sense that the rear wiper have its sprayer motor/pump at the rear because if that is the case, there is no way that the minimadness sprayer would work.

I think this will be my best bet because i am pretty sure when i accidentally activated the rear washer while the tubing was plugged, I heard the motor buzzing. At some point, it may have just broke. Regardless... i am sprayer ready!

Right. there is no pump back there, but I just thought maybe some of the necessary electronics were back there...

But yours probably just got burnt out like you said, though one would think that if the rear went, the wiper ones would too.... strange.

It works! I cleared the P0073 code that i got from disconnecting the temp sensor via scan gauge, drove for a couple days and all of a sudden, the whole contraption thing works!

Extremely unnoticeable which to me is perfectly fine. Only thing I would change is to change the angle of the sprayer. There really isnt much space from the front grill to the fmi.

Regardless, that rear washer nozzle now has a purpose (however small it may be) which is absolutely better than nothing in my book.

Here is a closeup view from the outside.

I am not sure about the adapter. I just got a mixed pack of t/y-splitters, and straight connectors of various sizes from salvo autoparts.

The hose size is 5/16inch OD x 3/16inch ID. I got this stuff from lowes (they had a huge spool of it and you pay per foot) Im pretty sure my nozzle, straight connector, y-splitter, and check valve all had slightly different ODs, but the best part about about these parts is that its barbed to fit a variety of diameters of tubing.

The one at lowes that i got fit very very tightly and did not require clamps like i had originally thought. Although I cannot say what size the oem tubing is, 5/16OD 3/16ID tubing fit perfectly in conjunction with the barbed fittings that i purchased.
