Crank Pulley Help!

Well I bought a Crank pulley from Alta a couple of months ago and when I went to install it the instructions had a different size wrench than the actual and i cant get to the belt tensioner with a normal wrench. Is there some kind of special tool to remove the belt?

If anyone has done this mod, can you tell me how to do it?

BTW my r56 is a 2009

Thanks
Carlos

Are you sure the crank pulley is for a gen2 car (turbo)?
When I have heard about crank pulley "upgraded" they are mostly for gen1 (supercharged) cars.

It's the same pulley for the turbo and non-turbo 2nd gen MINIs..

Yes there are crank pulleys for the 2nd gen and the part you are thinking about is the supercharger pulley which is normally smaller. Is the pulley the same size as the stock one? And if I am not mistaken there is a tool for the tensioner.

Sorry for my lack of knowledge with gen2 cars...I know with the gen1 cabrio's having been in production till '08, sometimes buying parts can get confusing.
Safe to say it is a lightweight pully then (since there would zero advantages to oversizing it, but perhaps a slight advantage to undersizing it from running the accesasorys slightly slower (alternator+ac compressor)). I know on a gen1 a special pulley puller is used (modified from a standard), for the crank pulley (different from the SC pulley).

The whole point of the lightweight crank pulley is to amount of inertia driven off the front of the engine. It might not be a noticeable difference, but every bit helps. Next, remove that AC compressor!

You need a special tensioner tool.
