How loud do you think this would be?

So, I searched for a bit but unfortunately couldn't find much information.

I have recently been looking at going catless on my R56 for the obvious gain reasons and my RMW tune!

First, Jan may be able to answer this, but if I have the ALTA turboback now, and switch to just a catless DP and keep the rest ALTA would I have to get my tune modified?

Secondly, what would be the best place to get a catless DP? I would obviously have to get the end fabricated to mate up with the ALTA v-bands, or vice versa but that isnt a big problem. I saw Exhaust Depots (are they around anymore??) with the built in resonator to cut on some noise that seems worth checking out for the price too.

Does anyone have an idea as to how loud a catless DP like ED's or other would work with the rest being ALTA?

Thanks

i had a 2.5 cat-less DP to a 2.5 inch stright pipe. it was louad as crap when you started it. After it warmed up it wasnt bad till you stepped on it then it was awesome. i had to put the stock DP back on to bring it to the dealer. i was thinking about putting it back on and adding a glass pack to see if i coulld deepen the tone.

Your approach with having the Alta system modified would be the cheapest route. You might have a hell of a time finding a welder to do it for you, but maybe you know the right people.

Thanks for the replies! Yeah I figured especially with just ALTAs human sized resonator and one muffler it would be insanely loud.

Luckily I have a friend who fabricates things for my old VW turbo and said he is down for the job so I dont think it should be too terrible. Do you guys think it would be beneficial to maybe add a 2nd smaller resonator to bring the tone down a little bit?

The only reason I figured I would just modify this exhaust is because I already had to get some parts fabbed because of the wonderful fitment of it on the car .

AKFarina, thanks again. I dont have the tune just yet. I actually have it ready to go with the flash loader but when Jan contacted me he had to send my modified file to Italy because I am running a new version of software. He said it will be back to me today...boy am I excited!

Many said that, RR's DP produces the most bang for the bucks. But I'd avoid dealing with them and get the ED's DP instead. I believe that almost all DPs are going to make the car louder. Although, some claims that it's quieter with the JCW's catback.

See I had thought about going that route as well, the only problem is if I bought RR's or even ED's catless downpipe, I would have to get something fabbed to make it mate to my ALTA turboback. Since I still have my stock DP and exhaust I figured it would be more cost effective to just mod the 3" exhaust.

Im 95% sure anyways if Im catless, the brand shouldn't matter much as its just mandrel bent/welded straight pipe ya know?

If it ends up being too loud is there a way to buy the factory JCW (not stage 1) exhaust from the downpipe back?

If that is the case then you have 3 options

1. get an exhaust band clamps from jegs, this is probably the cheapest route
http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/30733/10002/-1

2. get the OBX cat-back on ebay for $275 + $65 shipping

3. sell the Alta then use the $ to get the Milltek or Invidia Q300.

This is what it sounded like after a day of driving. the video doesn't do the loudness any justice. if you still have one muffler on it wont be to loud at all.

doesnt sound too bad! I like the tone its putting out for sure. I will leave the rear muffler on of course and the alta huge *** resonator...but I wonder if adding a 2nd resonator would help even a smaller one
