R56 needs a tune

I would like to have the R56 MCS tuned. Prefer a Saturday morning slot but if those are gone a late Friday afternoon works too.

It just so happens I am going to be in Rochester on those exact dates. Don't have the cash for the tune right now, but I'd love to come hang out and meet some fellow miniacs if thats cool.

Feel free to drop on by. We usually have a lot full of MINI's of those who just want to see what goes on at the tune session. Plus some real nice car's to look at.

Thanks

What about BMWs?

I think I can make it out for Friday April 16 -- provided I can get my passport renewed in time!

Question: the first post mentions BMWs. I've got a buddy with an e34 (1995) 540 with no mods other than intake and exhaust. Would Jan be able/willing to tune it that day, and/or would it be worth tuning?

R56 needs a tune

Put me down for Friday late in the day. I don't mind being the tail gunner. Makes my schedule easier to plan.

If anyone is even remotely interested in having RMW/Jan tune your Mini and you are within a few hours of Larry and EKSTEN AUTOWORKS you should absolutely go for it. It is worth every penny and you will be glad you did the next time you get behind the wheel of you newly tuned Mini.

I was and I highly recommend them.

Just so you know last year I drove 5 hours one way (from Philly) to have Larry and his crew at EKSTEN AUTOWORKS. I had them install my 440’s so I could have Jan tune my Mini on their Dyno. (See my mod list below) I was more pleased with the excellent service and overall friendliness of all the shop techs and office staff.

Heck Larry and his shop even provided Lunch for everyone.
<~ Replace popcorn with Pizza and wings

It was a great day and I did not want to leave. I had a great time driving home in my newly tuned ride, well until I hit wonderful nighttime PA Turnpike construction zone and it took me 7 hours to get home but, whole trip was worth it.

Some people may be asking why I dove 5 hours (one way) from Philly when I have Helix right in my backyard. Well I have 2 reasons I drove so far:

(1) Was the reputation of EKSTEN AUTOWORKS and RMW/Jan.

(2) Was great guys at Helix (Eric and Ralph) where in the middle moving to a new location and the Helix Dyno was disassembled and in transit from the old Helix shop to the new Helix shop. It is not easy to build a dyno room and transport a dyno while you are in the middle of moving your entire business and shop and still provide excellent service to your customers.

Helix also treats me very well does excellent work. I will be going to the Helix / RMW tune day to have Jan update my tune again in the next two weeks since I have had Eric install a Meth Kit. The Helix Dyno Lab room has been built and is now operational.

Thanks Dave
Enjoy that new meth kit when you have Helix and Jan retune your car for it in the next week. Tell Eric hello and thanks for the great treatment I recieved when they installed the header/ exhaust and RMW Tune 3 years ago. Funny how you can get your car retuned for $0.00 if you add more parts down the road.
Dyno time is cheap.

i know this has all been answered so im sorry for asking. but a few quick things....

my mcs is stock. the intake is just for noise really.
What will I be charged to get a standard RMW R56 tune installed?
I understand if I don't dyno it it wont be as good as it can be. That's ok.
So how much to roll up....plug in car...transfer map....drive away?
What kind of gain will I see?
Will the power limit in 1st and 2nd gear be removed? (i think i read about that in the past)

Thanks!
-Gene

I believe Jan has canned tunes for the R56. I don't know the cost. Give him a PM. He'll get back to you.

Thanks

You'll have to PM Jan about your buddy's car. I know Jan has tunes for the new 1 and 3 series BMW twin turbo car's. His wife has a 1 series that got a serious HP and Tq boost.

Thanks

Just out of curiosity, do you remember how much it cost for Eksten's to install your larger injectors?

Thanks,
Jon

Call Larry or Mark his son at Eksten. They'll let you know. Thinking of a upgrade for the track?

Thanks

Hey Larry,

when I had Jan tune my car, it was pretty clear that the thing restricting me from wringing more horsepower out of Jan's tune was my stock injectors. The dyno chart showed that my engine would really benefit from larger injectors, (though I'm not saying I have to go as high as 440's), but maybe something more, like JCW injectors, which I thought were 380's.

Anyway, I'm not necessarily looking to do anything right now; I was just curious.

Jan can scale 440's down for your car for fure upgrade's if you have any planned. I think they are less expensive then JCW's which are 380's.

Drop by on Satuday
Are you going to the Watkin's Glen opening day charity run?

I'll likely be going to the Glen on that Sunday with some non-MINIs, (don't hold it against me...). Over the years, I've gotten all my car-guy buddies at work addicted to doing some Thunder Road tours, (a VW GTI, '68 Camaro Z28, BMW 328xi, BMW 540i, Porsche 356, MGB, and more).

As for Jan's visit, I'll be in Niagara Falls that whole weekend; can't make it. (I'd rather be at Eksten's versus my in-laws!)

Got rid of your car. I thought last time it was your wifes turn for a upgrade. She has a R56 doesn't she.
Please give a call To Jan on your M3. Better to discuss your new ride with him. I know he's doing a couple at Helix next week when he's down there. Plus he has the pricing on the BMW's.
How do you like the new ride? Very nice car's

Thanks
Let me know what you need after you talk with Jan.

lol ya I just realized I need to change my sig here. I have only put about 500 miles on the M3 but it is a world of fun. I thought the Minis were expensive to maintain until I bought the M. Also upgrades are very very expensive. But man the power is worth it LOL. Also being able to slide the rear end out when I deem appropriate is nice.

If your car has been Dealer maintained they lowered the rev limiter a few year ago. Nice car, need a color pic. I'll have Jan contact you.

well the redline is 8k and the shark programmer puts it to 8100. I am having Ekstens remove the clutch delay valve next Friday.
