Don't get a Unichip. The ECU learns over the top of it. Get a custom tune or even one of our remote tune modules with our tune.

MOST people on this site HATE them, I however think they are a good piggy back system. I cant say much for the pre loaded maps tho but if you have the ability to tune them they can work wonders.

You can remote tune...no Dino needed!! Better with a Dino...but possible without!!
Jan at RMW has been doing it for quite a while, and it looks like WayMotorWorks now has the tools to do it remotely!

Thanks, i'm pretty new to the tuning world and have a Unichip and so far so good (knock on wood). I know that there are better options but for me in Western KS and newer tuner, it's good for me for now.

I'm here to learn

Well you already have 1. The "Q" chip is far better than the original. I won't tell you they're junk. I had 1 for a time, we used it to see what could be done with it.
If you buy the software & use the Unichip database to tune your car, there are some gains. For a DD & if you need the dealer for service It's not a bad option, however, it's very limited. It can't match a real ECU tune.
IMHO the Unichip is not a bad option for a DD. It's expensive for what you get, if you want the numbers. Tuning tool =$300, ECU =$300+, Unichip =$600, software =$300.
Bottom line, some people really like the Unichip.

If you like it and it works for you I say go with it. With that little motor work it probably wont send tour rods out the oil pan if it stops working. If the stock ECU starts to over ride the piggy back un plug it for a week and make the ECU think it won, than plug the UNI back in
Any mod done to your car shuld only be there to please YOU if everyone did the same mods we would all have Jan's car

The exact reason people became frustrated with the uni-chip...that and a few fried computers, and overheated cars....and the infamous uni-chip harness clips loosening...the list goes on, and on...the Q was much better by all accounts, bit still cost more than a tune, with more relilibility issues.....a flash tool and a tune gives all tha atvantages of the piggyback, with non of the problems!
But like you said...just do what you want....it is your money and your car....and your repair bills. If s uni-chip dropped into my lap cheap, a q, and it was programmed for my needs, I might be game, but unless it cost less than the tune and tool by a good margin, so under $200, it is simply not worth it IMO.

Thanks again. I'm not debating this fact, I only asked what were my options living in Western KS where i was far away from anyone who can even work on my car, let alone give a custom tune.

I'm sure the custom tune is better, but it's a bit impractical for me due to my location. Again, i'm a newer tuner so wanting to know my options aside from Unichip or a custom tune.

Thanks again

I have the UniChip in my '03 MC and it has been a good investment, even though it's the old model. I've had no problems with it at all and the car runs a lot better with it than it did without it.

I had one in my '06 MCS too, until last year, when Waylen convinced me to try his ECU tune. The UniChip, again, never seemed to present any problems for me, and so far, the ECU tune seems to be doing its job, as well. I did sell the UniChip Waylen took off my S to a NAM member in Ontario, and, last I heard, he thought it is doing a good job on his MCS, too.

Can someone explain to me why a reflash tool like the one on WMW is better than unichip's piggyback, i mean the unichip can be tuned by a tuner in your area whereas with the reflash tool you have to either get it to read your ecu and then send the data to someone 1000's of kilometers away to get it to be tuned. I just don't understand how that could be better?

With a flash tool, the factory program in copyied into tool...the car in run on a Dino usually...sent by e-mail, or adjusted live, (tuned)...this is done the updated in uploaded to the car...then it is done again...2 or 3 more times to optimize the custom tune. Where the guy sits does not matter...it can be in the same room, or a different planet. But this means you can pick THE best tuner to tune your car...the unichip usually uses a canned tune...or ifit is customized, there are very limited things than can be adjust...with a custom tune...virtually anything, including things like traction control can be tweaked...along with many/any motor paramaters.
A tune let's the motor run off software that is uploaded to the car...the piggyback sends signals...a middle man if you will, to the ecu to trick it into dong things to make more power, while, intercepting some signals, and attunating them back to normal values. There are gains...but much more with true custom ecu tuneing....uni-chip is a bit of a hack...and does have drawbacks...namely our car's CPU learns...and compensates a bit...reducing the gains...
But with a flash tool, the base line programming is hard coded as if it is factory....and if you kept a copy of the factory tune, you can revert for dealer visits if you need to, or to trouble shoot....these flash tools are releativly new... When they were introduced, the UNU-chip was discontuned...on the r-53 anyway.....They relized the market was gone since there were now better options....IMO take the hint from the maker of the product...they knew they could not compete since ecu tuning had begun.
