R56 Alta Lightened Crank Anyone Have?

for some time now i have had the alta lightened crank pulley still in the box debating if i should install it or not. i have 2009 MCS, is it worth it? will it cause any problems? i know the earlier versions had alot of problems with there stock pulleys. i need some info, i had one on my scion xb for a long time but that car was not as high powered as this. never been so hesitant on a part, if you can help any info would be great!

I just recently installed a lightened crank pulley (Alta) on my '08 MCS. Mine is stock size, not a reduction pulley, so no need for shorter belt and colder plugs. Install was pretty easy, I changed my V-belt at the same time sine I had 86k miles on the original. I noticed a difference in low end response and turbo spool up. Simple mod with good results. I do seem to "hear" the new pulley. It is spoked and I think I am hearing air passing around the spokes as a slight hiss. Anybody else notice this?

colder plugs and shorter belt are for r53 s/c cars not r56 turbo cars, what you hear is the belt walking on the pulley .

So how much gain did you feel with the pulley? Do you have better throttle response and a little better top end?

how long have you had it on your car, mine im guessing is the same, is spoked and lightened and should be stock size, do you know of any problems with it destroying the cam shaft in anyway over time?

well i have not installed it on my r56 yet was waiting on feedback since this is my first turbocharged car, but when i had it on my scion xb (2 of them by the way) def better throttle response, as for power probably near to nothing, but reved alot better! it was made by perrin and had prob bout 40,000+ miles on the pulley and help up extremely well

Yes I see a big difference in throttle response and it appears that the turbo spools quicker and kicks in at a lower rpm than it used to. Between this and my modified intake the power band starts off lower than before and pulls smoother and harder too.

I had this mod, decided not to put it in. Reason being...

There are frequencies listed on the belt at which MINI has the belts tuned too. I didn't want to mess with those at all. I was unsure if by installing the pulley it would mess with that at all. I have heard horror stories about this mod and it runing the the engine.

If enough people have done it and it's worth the improvement, I say go for it. But, for me, I just resold it. Just one less headache to worry about for a part that would not do enough to justify a potential engine issue.

yea thats what i have been thinking, let alone the directions given with it werent even right, it called for a 21mm 12point socket, not even the right size to pule the first tensioner off the belt, i will prob just sell it and purchase something else

Frequencies? Please explain. I am pretty sure MINI does not list the harmonic resonance frequency of the engine on the belt. We have sold quite a few lightened Crank Pulleys with no ill effects being reported.
