Drivetrain Easy fix for rubbing boost tubes.
Easy fix for rubbing boost tubes.
First: this is NOT a post to complain about a vendor, and I hope it does not become that. I did not contact the vendor, I do not want anything from them. I just want to share this with NAM members and I hope it can help. I think by now if you have a silicone tube, you're not surprised if it rubs.
Second: We all know about hard pipes. We don't need to be told AGAIN that we should have them
Third: I found a use for the noise maker!!!
I noticed today that my hot side tube was rubbing on my coolant tank. It didn't touch sitting still. Must have hit when the engine rocked. After a little thought I decided I would put a piece of rubber hose on it to take the abuse.
Then I remembered that I still had the noisemaker up in the Attic. When I looked at it I was happy to see the factory anti-chafe wrap on it.
I cut a piece of the hose long enough to cover the spot it was rubbing and then cut it in half. Effectively making a rectangle piece to put over the rubbed spot. Next I cut a piece of the anti-chafe stuff the same size and wire tied the two over the rubbed spots.
I'm going to get some of that silicone tape that is self effusing and replace the wire ties soon.
What do you think?

wow... that's actually quite brilliant! wonder if that'd be a good way to fix that rub issue on the Alta cold side tube as well... i'll check some autoparts stores to see if they sell sheets of that anti-chafe stuff.
You could seriously be on to something
not that there should be rubbing problems in the first place, but a fix is a fix right!

the hose clip is a two part clip i just removed half of it and it doesnt hurt anything. but it still rubs up on the coolent tank under the edge of it. i think i will try your mod though to stop that spot from rubbing there. i still have the noisemaker from my 07 .
I used some thick felt on all the rub spots a while ago. Still holding strong. Don't ask me where to buy it though. I "get it" from work.

McMaster-Carr carries abrasion resistant nylon fabric sleeving in whatever diameter that you need. Check out the link above and look at the sleeving shown at the bottom of the catalog page.
As you'll also see, they make a wrap around version that uses hook and loop. However, the type shown at the left of the page has a higher temperature rating.

That's a good idea but shouldn't be necc.... especially with the M7.
At very worst, you can cut the edge of the hose to make it change angles. I realize that the inconsistencies between hoses and cars are different but I think you should be able to adjust the angle of how it's fitting to make it fit correctly.
I use an M7 hose and did the exact same thing. I little bit of tweaking and it fits correctly. (Now, I'm pretty sure I just jinxed myself and will probably wear a hole in it this week... lol)
But if tweaking doesn't work, still a great fix.

It sounds like it works and fitting the intended purpose ................. but it LOOKS kinda ghetto.

I ordered some of this stuff for my OCC hoses. I like it. I'm going to order some for the boost tube now.
It's a SICKNESS!
