CAI Question

Didn't want to thread jack other threads to hear what you have to say on this question.

Defenders Of Speed CAI pulls air from the cowling by windshield. A few others take the air from the hood scoop.

Wouldn't the best take advantage of both? Wondering if we could combine both types together.Would it work?
Couldn't we connect to the cowl and this box together to also receive air?

Reason why I ask,Is I like the other systems better, look wise.DOS system does appear to perform very well, just wish it looked better.

Dos also uses stock pickup point in grill so you get even higher pressure than using the scoop.

This thread started by Ottoman_FD3S is the deepest that folks have been into this topic for the R56:

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...n-fi-cars.html

I'd read that thread and some of the articles that Ottoman_FD3S posted to bone-up on good air intake locations. There is some BS in there, but you can pick through it pretty easily.

I am a vendor, so feel free to take whatever I say with a grain of salt,
but I responded to the question of the hood scoop at post# 60 in that thread.

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...78-post60.html

MINI picked a great location for the factory air inlet and the hood scoop helps with venting the turbo, although it was mainly envisioned as an aesthetic link to the R53 by MINI/BMW's designers on the R56 ( per motoringfile.com ) .

As for looks, that's a personal choice. If you're not feeling the love, I'm not offended in the least. Go with whatever you like and makes you happy -- aftermarket, DIY, or otherwise.

Thanks, for your statement.
More then likely I will be getting one of yours when another group buy happens, cause it does seem to obtain the best air.
But, wouldn't tapping air from the hood scoop and from the cowling work?
Just wondering?
Wouldn't these scoops help in that area?

Or this one?

I do hope you plan on making a smoother intake tube to replace the original one or you do find the JCW one will work on the S version as well

Some vendors like this direction for getting intake air and DoS simply doesn't. In developing our parts, we wanted to let the scoop aid in venting the heat from turbo when stuck in traffic and at low speed after hard runs.

DoS and our development partners also like to lean toward parts that make your car a sleeper from the exterior. Scoops like this are sweet parts, but definite attention grabbers.
