Drivetrain Want to improve performance what to get?
Want to improve performance what to get?
I know it is a loaded question but what are some of the add I can do to get more HP out of my 2007 Cooper S. I do not want to tear out the head, put a new one in, replace the cam, clutch, flywheel just some good upgrades.
I do not want to break the bank.
Things I am considering.
Air intake
New exhaust system
New intercooler.
What else is there?
With so many choices out there which ones are good?
Mainly with exhaust and air intakes.
Last is it possible to re-map the ECU?
I had a 2006 and did some upgrades and the shop remapped the ECU to the JCW specs and I was up to around 205HP and that is with out aftermarket exhaust.
Only thing I did was add the K&N Typhoon air intake, 19% pulley, and NKG sparkplugs. I was a German Mini though.
I expect a lot of different answers.

Intake, exhaust & intercooler "upgrades" are all WAY expensive on a bang-for-the-buck scale.
Even if you were able to squeeze out 30 hp - which I'd guess would wind up costing you around $2k - would that be worth it to you? The car isn't a "straight-line" performer anyways, its strength is handling. How about working on tires/suspension instead? If you're stock in those areas, you can make HUGE gains in handling AND comfort (and appearance for that matter) with the right tweaks.

I agree, Started the wrong direction. I went for some small power gains and like it. But after doing this i wish i would have spent the money on all suspension upgrades first.
here is what i would have done instead:
nm torque arm bushing (best $60 spent)
hr short shifter adapter ($45, another cheap effective mod)
Coilovers (handling and looks)
Larger rear sway bar
Intake (i have the forge one, i like it, current trend looks like the DOS intake is the one to get)
then go turbo back and intercooler
TUNE!!!!!

I'd suggest signing up for the RMW flash tool + canned tune as a first step for power. You can always get your tune updated or dyno tuned as you add power increasing parts.
I rally just looking for tuning advice. I have all the JCW trim, brakes, front strut, and suspension.Whole car is JCW carbon Fiber.
DOS= Defenders of speed? So that air intake system to get.
Exhaust- Riss, Borola, who else.
Also I am not up to date with lingo, so if you could please help me out here,
brands, what it is.
Thanks

From what I've seen the Defenders of Speed intake is the way to go. For exhaust, I'd get the Exhaust Depot downpipe and whatever catback sounds right to you, check out youtube for sound clips. If you want an intercooler, I'd go with the Helix.

+1 on the driving school and the tires (get RID of the runflats!) -- plus replace the OEM air filter with a K&N panel filter for about $45 -- all high return value.
BMW clubs run one-day "car control clinics" and two-day driving schools -- either one highly recommended.
