noisemaker delete question

so i deleted my noisemaker the other day, just went to lowes and bought a pipe cap and mounted it inside a small piece of the oem piping nice fit and only cost me 2 bucks. but now im noticing that my intake is running alot more quit? any reason for this? this a bad sign? i have a ddm intake, could the combo of the intake and the noisemaker make the sound that loud when reving, now i get the sound as jus a shhhhhh rather than the phsssss type thing. i know that when the turbo vents it comes back out on the intake side and vents like the foger plate did, am i better off with having a bov vs a noise delete? or am i fine with the noise delete and my intake?

Yes, you deleted the NOISEMAKER.
If you want to hear the turbo more, you want the BOV muffler delete kit.

Don't be offended by this question as I'm just trying to make sure I understand your question. So you're saying you removed the noisemaker(aka something that makes noise) and now you're wondering why there is less noise?

Recap: removed maker of noise -> why is there less noise

Is that about what's going on here?

sorry, my bad - I was thinking of the intercooler muffler delete kit that MINI madness makes. There is a little "muffler" on the hose that runs between the turbo and the intercooler that helps quiet the turbo noise. Or you can just replace the whole hose (alta or M7).

Just looking at that one makes me wonder why I can't just get a piece of metal tubing like generic exhaust parts at autozone or something. Any idea why a $10 piece wouldn't work if I matched the dimensions?

It would work just the problem is depending on where you are from it has to be CARB and DOT approved.

Ah, see I hadn't thought of that because I've always lived in Alabama where the only emissions rules state that you cannot remove the cat. Although it's perfectly legal to drive around without one, just don't get caught removing it .

Ya thats how it is in Florida too. If you are good at fabricating I say fabricate a pipe. Even go as far as to PnP it and Powder coat it and you would be good. You could even in large the Diameter a little bit to help with air flowor even fabricat a pipe that goes from the passenger side of the intercooler to the throttle body. That one would be diffictult though because of how tight a fit it is but it can be done, it is just a question of how much time and energy your will to invest.

You'd want the rims beaded so the don't pop off on high boost.

I dont think the piping needs to be CARB exempt.

Ah good point, I'll bet I could flare it just slightly and add a hose clamp to make sure. I wouldn't have thought of that otherwise.

to be honest, i tried using some 200F rated CPVC pipe instead of the muffler before i got the alta tube, and it basically slid right off. so i abandonded it, and i realized it probably would have melted or cracked anyway.

Key word depending on where you are. Cali will not let you fab up parts and run them on your car period. They need to approved and a lot of states base their emissions off of what Cali does. So if you are in a state that it doesn't matter go for it.

porthos

the noisemaker is not part of the emission control system and is a non venting and non moving part that can be removed without violating any laws regarding the clean air act of 1968, california or 49 state emissions .

A cai vents,a cat vents ,a downpipe vents,turbo vents .

I am out because you did not read anything we were talking about. Mastawyrm asked if it was possible to fab up his own pipe and that is when I responded with depending on where you are it might not be allowed. I know that the noisemaker is not part of the emissions cause it does nothing but make a cool noise. So now that is cleared up I will furthur continue on and say that I am done. Out
