GT28RS Tuned @ 338whp

Hey there everybody, this is Phil. I figured I would post what I’ve been working on recently on this forum for others to see. I’ve been working with a local tuning shop to tune my R56 which is equipped with the ATP GT28RS turbo kit. We just had a long night at the dyno and made 338whp and 376wtq. There is still more tuning to be done tomorrow but as of right now everything is looking promising! The car is silly fast. More info to come soon!

PIX Please!

Hopefully you don't go past the limits of the stock engine internals.

We'd LOVE to know more....

You know.....pics, dyno's, who tuned it, what ancillary mods you are running to support 376 ft-lbs of torque....

Seems interesting, but questionable. Even ATP claims the kit to be capable of only up to 300whp. Would love some more info on these figures.

Exactly.

And a GT28 equipped car I've heard about, put out almost 100 whp less than this guys....

but did they have all supporting mods? IC, catless downpipe to full 3" exhaust? good intake? assuming the 300whp was possible with everythign else stock (which wasn't said but indirectly suggested on ATPs site because they say "Includes GT28RS turbo configured to bolt directly to stock exhaust manifold, 3" racing downpipe, charge pipes and connectors to stock FMIC. All required hoses and fittings are also included. 350HP capable with a tuning solution." now it never says 300whp with supporting mods like most would say... it just says with tuning solution. so assuming that the turbo and tuning are all that's needed to make 300whp then i'm sure supporting mods can make the extra 40whp.....

curious to know what tires he uses, that's a LOT of power to put to the ground for a FWD street car.

Having been in a 330whp MINI and a 400+whp VW GTI...it's surprisingly not as difficult as you'd imagine to put down....

well not from a roll i wouldn't imagine... but in FWD cars you usually have to strike a balance of handling and power, just cuz a friend of mine has a heavily modified Mazdaspeed3, he's pushing near 400crank hp and has noticed putting the power down in a corner is hard, and having driven it i'd have to agree, in a straight line it's rediculous fast especially from a roll, but the brakes were over powered (nothing simple upgrades couldn't fix though), and the LSD in the car was just WAY overpowered coming out of corners. it was still one HELL of a fast car, i just just thinking the less weight a car has the little bit harder it is to get it down when you up the power that much.

i'm sure it is possible, and major props for 338whp! i still wanna know if there was any changing of internals or fueling :P

then again... on second thought... a MS3 sure as hell ain't a MINI and 338whp out of a 1.6L engine, THATS F*****G EPIC! in terms of hp/L that's 243hp/l!!! a Honda Civic Si doesn't even get 100hp/L... that's something to be damn proud of!

According to Garrett the disco potato is rated at 360hp max with at least a 1.8L.

Is this a USA car or European. I have been working on the same project since last month. I have not been able to do a full flash on my 2009 JCW. I am currently using the Unichip that we have tuned and dynoed, but it's not perfect yet. It's putting 287whp at 19lbs of boost. When doing the full flash, we were getting the same power with only 15lbs of boost before going into the limp mood.

I am very interested to find out regarding the tune and who did it, since we have not been able to get it fully flashed. email us and let us know.

Mazdaspeed3's inherently have more torque steer in stock form, than both the MCS and GTI do...run 400 hp through it and I'd imagine it'd be quite a handful.

In a MCS or GTI, it's really not as bad as you'd think! Trust me! Naturally you have to learn some different throttle control techniques and hold on to the wheel tighter...but thats what makes it fun! They go exactly where you tell them too...and they don't even fly off the road!

On a different note though, I really think there has to be one of three things going on here with the OP: 1) He's in Europe and they have always been ahead of us when it comes to this stuff.... 2) He's upgraded the internals (at least to some degree) along with fueling, ignition, MAF and MAP sensors, etc)...... or 3) He's from a tuning company in the US and is just trying to talk game and ruffle feathers here.

You all decide .

A note on #2 though, unless he had the internals done as a one off custom deal, no one as of a few months ago produced any. Talking to 3 of the biggest companies...none had any in production nor did they plan to. This is from Wiseco, JE, and CP....as well as Carrillo Rods. This was all from in person conversations with the marketing rep of each. If the above don't make it, I can't see who else would.

I can almost be certain the stock components will not take that much torque....but thats just me.

Crower might be making rods and pistons, arp makes fasteners, shrick offers 2 sets of cams, nitrous express makes a flyby wire kit that works with DI .

If op is real the numbers may be on the bottle because of the oversquare torque rating.

350whp/350wtq can be done, has the op cracked the code ?or just on crack?only time will tell.

agreed... must be expensive for such one off deals.... unless people make such parts for the Peugeot 207 GTI engine... i mean our block and internals are the same... just the head's different... so it's feasible... just as a euro car...

speaking of answers...where's phil disappear to?
