I suggest you check all of them periodically. I think there is like 11 of them? (don't quote me on that) the 4 I lost were the bolts that hold the oil pan itself, to the engine, directly around the area that the lower mount connects to. Not the 4 bolts that hold the mount the BSH damper bolts to, on the oil pan.

11 bolts... you are probably thinking of the cover for the cam timing chain, the side where the pulleys are located... the oil pan has 13 bolts, at 23 ft-lb. Only a few are easily accessible, for both of these bolts...

Given that these engine mounts are easy to install, I'm not going to rush the decision now just because I have the subframe out...

I know this thread is older. I'm looking to buy the bsh mount, but am concerned the other mounts will go bad if I don't replace them. And if I do have to replace them would new OE mounts do or would I have to upgrade them? Trying to see what I'm getting myself into here lol

Depending on the age of your car, you might want to replace them all anyway(the upper tends to leak after a while). I still have the BSH mount, but my upper motor mount, and the trans mount, have been replaced with Vibratechnics mounts, and they are great. I got the road versions. http://www.vibra-technics.co.uk/mini_bmw (3 different versions based on the year of your car for fitment)

The BSH mount was the second mount I replaced, the first being the upper passenger side mount with poly as well since it was leaking when I bought the car. I later replaced the other upper mounts with poly inserts- all mounts sourced from Way.

If you replace the lower mount first with the BSH, I would think most of the engine movement will be transferred to the upper mount(s) and may cause it to have a shorter lifespan.

My car is an 04' with 60k... I'm definitely replacing the upper mount as well. After reading up I think that one is absolutely a must with my mileage. Idk if i can afford the trans mount too... Are there other brands or is it pretty much not worth it to look any further than vibra-technics? Thank you so much for the help!

Depends on your budget and the level of ''comfort'' you want. I don't mind the stiffness and I have the TSW Upper mount, BSH lower and Powerflex gearbox inserts. It settle down after a while, it's not that bad, but my car is stored during winter, so I don't drive it in really cold weather (which can be pretty bad with stiffer mounts, as I discovered with my previous car).
