I was reading the other thread, but I wanted to start a new thread about mileage. Has anybody with the kit been tracking it? If so, what kind of numbers are you getting? I've had my JCW kit installed now for 2 months and 2000 miles (car was fully broken in prior to install) and I'm getting crappy mileage - much less than before when the car was all stock. This is being easy and not at all aggressive with the throttle (okay, sometimes maybe ) so I am :???:. It was at the dealer for the last 6 weeks due to flood damage (non-mechanical thankfully) but even before that it was getting worse mileage.

I don't know the exact number as I've just started tracking it but I was just curious as to what others were thinking.

Does anyone else have any stats on the mileage with the JCW package?

about 20-22 mpg. This is avg mpg from my trip computer. I drive like a maniac pretty much all the time, don't shift until close to readline, taken my little dark angel to the autocross twice now, close to 3000 miles.

If it was a something I worried about, I be thrilled with 20-22!!!

Fortunetly, or unfortunetly, I measure mine by lateral exceleration!
(But to answer your question, my computer says 18.7 average!)

I'm just enjoying the full abilities of the JCW Mini!!!

I had the kit installed last August. I had 3,200 miles on the MCS at that time.
I now have 4,800 miles, or 1,600 miles with the kit. I only drive it on the highway, meaning no city (stop and go) driving, and normally drive 70 MPH and above.

I had been getting around 30 MPG before, and now average about 32 MPG. I did the 1,200 mile breakin recommendation. My MINI also has the Madness instake and the MILLTEK header. No other mod's.

Hope that helps.

Are you hand calculating these MPG values?

No, that is the actual computation. I have two 300 gallon fuel tanks that I use to fill my vehicles (I live in the country, and buy my gas directly from the CO'OP. I have a meter that I use as reference when i fill them. I also know by this that when the tank runs out, it matches the accumulitive number on the meter before I reset it.

Most of my driving is commuting to work. Averaging 45 mph. Some highway, but some stop and go. The OBC is usually 28-30 mpg.
If I calulate it by hand, it usually around 26-27 mpg.
I had my JCW installed prior to picking up the car, so I have no basis for comparison to the stock setup.

I got a very hard time with mileage questions on modified cars. Why would you go to all the trouble to spend the big buck to get the JCW package making it closer to a race type engine then worry about your gas mileage? Get a Yugo or something if gas mileage is what you want and leave the modified cars along.

For my part I didn't mean to imply that I was worried about the gas mileage. I entirely agree with you. Really wouldn't matter if I got ten MPG.

I only record the mileage as a reference, it helps to signal when something is going wrong mechanically.

I'd agree that mileage worries and mods are a bit oxymoronic, but the cool thing is that the JCW kit is reputed to make the MCS more fuel efficient initally. I also don't care (I've got a JCW MCS on order), since I'll be driving for fun and not economy, but I do wonder if that slight mileage increase holds up w/ added cold air intake and/or header, as I'm planning on adding both when I get my new ride. Anyone done these to their JCW MINI and have numbers to share?

I think knowing the fuel consumption with the JCW kit is relevant because MINI has said fuel consumption should stay the same after the installation. If it is WAY low, something probably is wrong with the install.

Unfortunately for me, i can't seem to drive my car without my right foot mashed all the way down so I'll never know what a "normal" mpg is...

The installation documents with the JCW indicate a 2000 mile breakin period, AFTER install. www.bridger.us

I had mine installed at 10 miles on the odometer and the only problem so far is restraining my right foot.

I haven't heard this either.
The dealer had no problem installing the kit with only 11 miles on the odometer.
As far as I'm concerned, it shouldn't make any difference whatsoever. Essentially, you have a brand new engine, then you replace a the head and a few other misc. parts. What difference would it make if the bottom end of the engine is broken in prior to replacing the head or not?
You can still get a proper break in on the engine with the JCW installed. It's all about self control.
I must admit. The break in on my car was agony!

It actually says 2000 kilometers which translates to about 1250 miles, the same as the initial break-in on the engine when new.....as to the mileage, mine is about the same, 20 or under around town with my foot in it, 25 on the freeway at left-lane speeds. Currently the de facto limit seems to be 80 mph

Question: does anyone have any data on how much difference the gas in California makes? I've heard it can be significantly worse for mileage....Bruce In Santa Monica

DOH! Brain malfunction

I've got 510 miles on the odometer and have an overall average of 23mpg with 26mpg on the last fill up. This is around town and rural driving. I'm staying within the breakin limits, best I can. Fuel is Chevron. Location is Texas.
