JCW: How much boost should I be producing?

After my newly installed map, I hooked up my new Scangauge II. (Thanks to UncleMeat for telling us how to display just boost)

I was wondering what normal boost levels should be for an RMW tuned JCW?

How accurate is the scangauge?

I see consistently 19.4 lbs of boost without sport button.

I see see 20.5 with sport button.

What does the sport button do as far as boost?

Will the ECM go into "overboost" without the sport button?

I thought 17lbs was about normal.

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Mark

Scangauge uses sampling and does not provide "instant" information. It is better for stuff like coolant temperature that does not change often.

I realize but isn't sampling when it takes readings every so many seconds? Because if so and the boost gauge hits "x" lbs of boost at the time it's taking a sample, then the turbo obviously hit that amount, correct?

Am I missing something?

Thanks,

Mark

Yes, the number it will display is the boost at that instance.

But it may not be reading the max boost because it may have missed it.

Edit: I should have said continuous info in the previous post.

I'm gonna have to keep both sets of OZ's right now. I just had to spend a truckload of money on the Duramax diesel conversion. (not to mention we just finished a 70+K remodelling this last weekend.) Point is, I IS BROKE!!!

Sport button should not have any affect on whether or not the car overboosts. It's merely for the steering ratio and throttle response. The R56 is pretty finicky on deciding if it wants to overboost or not...thus why you are probably seeing the variation.

It's accurate enough. Set the sampling rate to 'fast' and it works perfectly. I see almost 0 need to install a physical boost gauge. Scan Gauge tells me everything I need to know.

That's kind of what I was thinking... if the sampling refreshes fast enough, it would give almost the same accuracy as a constant pressure mechanical gauge. (within reason for what we're doing with it)

I often see 19.5lbs on my JCW with a tune. 15lbs is very easy to get with half throttle.

weird! what are you reading it from?

I've never seen higher than 11psi on my on my scan gauge in 1st.

Funny thing is...I can feel the difference from when it boosts 9-10psi and decides to boost 11psi.

I've found that when I roll into WOT in 1st it will boost to 11 everytime...but when i just floor it...its generally not as high.
