Service Engine Soona after CAI installed
i've got a 2006 MCS and i installed my Alta CAI V2 earlier today... i hooked everything up correctly... im not by any means a mechanic just handy with simple things... but after turning my car back on i noticed the "service engine soon" light was on... i haven't noticed anything wrong... no wierd sounds, shaking or anything... please anyone with any ideas or solutions please lemme know... i don't have any extra money to spend getting this fixed or diagnosed ina shop
A leak between the throttle body and air filter won't cause a check engine light.
Stop at Autozone and get the code read, or us a scangaugeII. Then use that to figure out what's wrong.

If you are throwing a bad O2 sensor code, you probably disturbed a connection to the supercharger intake tube when the CAI was installed and have a vacuum leak there. Check all of those fittings carefully. The MINI dealer won't be able to figure that one out.
This may sound odd....did you push open the throttle plate? Ours is not of the normal variety which is usually actuated by a cable hooked up to your gas pedal. Ours is a fly-by-wire system which relies on sensors to tell the computer exactly where the throttle plate rests. If the throttle plate is pushed open manually, you will hear a series of clicks. This means you just did something you weren't supposed to!
You will then get a series of codes related to your throttle position sensor aka: TPS

You ask, how do I know this? Because had the undeniable urge to press my throttle plate when I replaced my thermostat 2 weeks ago! After a few key cycles, the code cleared itself. I'm guessing the computer cycled through and the TPS showed that the throttle plate was in its correct position. I hope this was your problem, it sounded alot like mine. Good luck and happy motoring.

Same thing happened to me today, but I installed a K&N Typhoon, probably pushed in the butterfly, cannot recall at this moment... I also have an '06 MCS, everything else that you wrote is basically verbatim on my situation, hopefully we find an easy, cheap fix to the problem.
