"intake muffler" is nomenclature that is found on old, naturally aspirated BMW's as well...really doesn't talk to the fact that this thing muffles noise in any way. I have found BMW part nomenclature to really be all over the place for the most part...a lot of times it makes perfect sense and other times I scratch my head.

So when you get rid of this useless component are you left with a hole where items #16 & #17 insert into the car (firewall)? Does that need to be plugged?

As far as I can remember no, it just mounts flush to the firewall no hole.

Paper?

Well maybe a bit of insulation is called for. So there is a bit of a hole unless you do something about it?

it's about 1.5 inch x 3.5 inch square hole...u can just stuff some paper up that hole..u will know what i mean when u take #16 off and feel it

I tried to leave everything looking stock as possible just in case...so i just removed #16...this mod didn't cost me one penny...

Big-22 did you notice any PSI boost with the NME mod? The airflow should be better.

I have both pipes, i will say that after the gauge install now i know when i over boost. I have a 2010 and during normal boost i see maybe a .5 lbs almost a lbs. During over boost i see 1 lbs -2lbs maybe a little more than usual, dependant on load also. definitely changed the boost curve around as the spool characteristics changed.

The over boost function gives an additional 150Mbar (2.17 PSI) over stock, for no longer than approximately 12 seconds.

Before my rmw tune (last night) as long as i would mash the throttle i would get it in every gear if i started in a low enough revolution range. After i did the hot pipe gauge wise there was an increase on top of the factory overboost.

But now RMW runs the show and boy is it entertaining

Noisemaker Exit Pipe Diameter?

Does anyone know the outside diameter of the tube where the noisemaker piping exits the main piping (the OD where item 10 attaches or the ID of item 10)?

Noisemaker Exit Pipe Diameter

Actually I'm looking for the OD. I want to try and find a silicone/EDPM cap that I can slide over the noisemaker outlet from the main pipe and then secure with a hose clamp. If the ID is around 1", maybe the OD is around 1-1/4 or so. I would like to find the actual size so that I can get a plug with a real snug fit, then add the clamp. Thanks.

Forget that. I drive naked to save about 3 lbs of weight. Car is way more responsive that way.

That's dedication to performance I could suggest a way of saving another pound if you'd like
