Alright guys, I bought some supersprint race mufflers off of ebay meant for the Mini S. I'll be picking up my car in a week and to complete the exhaust system I need the y-pipe pictured here (they call it a "center tube):

http://www.supersprintna.com/exhaust...iS_system.html

I was wondering what you guys thought a reasonable price to pay a muffler shop to make me this piece was. I have found 3 different shops that I feel comfortable letting work on my car, all 3 have a mandrel-bender and appear to do very professional work. So how much do you think it should set me back?

thanks,

amir

The Supersprint Y-Pipe through ProMini costs $140.01

For more info check here - ProMini / Supersprint Page

It would be pretty tough to make a Y-pipe, might as well just buy one. You might also want the center pipe with a resonator or have a muffler shop weld in one. Running the SS without a resonator is seriously loud.

I'm assuming when he said race he meant the Sport exhaust which is loud - but even without a resonator I don't find it myself too loud, certain won't be the loudest on the street. Supersprint also sells a version of the mufflers that a tad quieter...same performance, just quiter.

Guys, I bought the "race" mufflers of off someone on ebay, they came and they appear to be very nice. Thanks a lot for the responses Casey and CalCooperS. I have a couple more questions:

1. Are the supersprint "race" mufflers I have louder than the Borla "race" setup? I heard the Borla and rode in a car equipped with it on Thursday and found the drone to be very acceptable, if not nonexistant, but the exhaust had a very substantial sound from the outside which is what I'm going for.

2. If I get the center tube from supersprint, will they come with the hardware needed to connect it to the mufflers? I don't have any clamps or hardware and the ends appear to just slip into the y-pipe and then seal up using some sort of an exhaust clamp.

thanks,

amir

I think the Borla Race mufflers (almost as loud as Magnaflow) would be louder than Supersprint race mufflers.

I think it is the center tube only and you would need to buy any hardware at a parts store. When you order it you can ask if the hardware is included or how much for it.

Can't comment on the borla setup as I have not heard it for myself.

All hardware for install is included...but if your only buying the y pipe your going to have to cut your stock connecting pipe and weld the y pipe in...for a nice and clean install I would either go with the resonator or the center pipe along with the y-pipe - you will have everything you need to install.

I don't know which version I have (race, sport), but compared to the magnaflow with resonator, my SS with resonator is louder. However only above 3000 rpm, during cruise its quiet.

Borla Race and Sport exhaust are the same. Almost as loud as Magnaflow. Once you add a header then even louder.
Magnaflow is still the loudest.

Borla Street is the normal more quiet version.

You also have the SS header so that would make it louder most likely. It all depends on the total setup and if you have a sport cat or not. No cat is usually louder.

I'm running the SS header. Previously, with the Rogue exhaust, there was droning at about 3500, quieted to a degree with Rogue tip inserts. It was there with and without the Rogue resonator. Otherwise a nice exhaust tone. Also tried the supertrap, but too loud.

Now i have the header, ACT 3" high flow cat, SS twin mufflers (not the race versions) and the Moroso spiralflow resonator, all 2-1/2" pipe. sound is quieter than Rogue, nice tone and no drone. It is making as much power as before (based on 1/4 mile times)

I have the jackson racing header , no cat and the Borla sport/race setup. I have heard several magnaflow equipped S's. All i can say is there is a new sherrif in town LOL . My car is now 100% illegal from a decible standpoint. It has a sound unlike anything I have heard before and I admit i love it. It isnt for everyone i can assure you that. My wife can hear me doing test runs three blocks from the house .As you can see from the photo the " mufflers " are incredably small. For added fun that big resonator can also be eliminated from the system but I think that would be too much for me but you never know . My other toy is a 1972 K5 Blazer witha a vette big block in it. I have headers and vacume assisted billet aluminum exhaust cut outs so I ride with open headers about 95% of the time. The mini doesnt set off as many car alarms but almost . Hey that could be a good exhaust test. How many car alarms can you set off in a given distance? LOL Step up to the bar magnaflow guys lets see what you got  Randy
