I am assuming that both do basically the same thing, increase spark. Which is better, or is there a difference?

They are essentially the same idea. I am not aware of the voltage of the MSD System though, but Our system just up to 40,000 Volts Under Load. Though MSD has applications that fit, I am pretty sure that you will have to drill out the metal that is on the holes as when cast, are used for certain applications (dodge Neon, PT Cruiser to name a few). Our system comes ready to be installed with no modifications, just a direct bolt on.

If you have any other question, Please don't hesitate to e-mail me or send me a PM.

Thanks

I installed the MSD unit and did have to drill out the cast in metal sleeves but this is only necessary if you want to re-use the stock screws. This wasn't hard and so far has not been a problem (on 2 months). I also noticed an immediate improvement, mostly in the lower revs. I changed the plugs to magnecor at the same time. I had installed Denso IK22's previously and was unhappy with the performance but with the other ignition mods added, very happy.

MSD part number - 8239, $80 at the local auto parts store
Magnecor part number - 45425, $67.50 off the internet.
Denso IK22 - $56 off hte internet.

After the Pilo intake, I got the Pilo ignition system (coils, wires, plugs). It's my favorite........because of the power and smoother acceleration it adds at the low end.

My MCS was smooth before I added the Pilo ignition upgrade with colder plugs.
I can't say that I can tell any difference after the install. No change in mpg.
No pluses I can detect and no negatives.
No problems before. No problems after.
A friend installed the MSD and he cannot tell the difference either. He choose the MSD because he already had wires and plugs upgraded.

I had asked this question earlier but I'd still like to know-

How well does the Pilo ignition upgrade kit work with the M7 Plasma Booster?

Ignition solutions was going to do some testing but does Pilo Racing have any comments?

Do they work together well? Not well? or no difference with or without the M7 PB?

Thanks for the feedback.

I can't answer your exact question, but just as you found with your Pilo
ignition parts, I saw NO change in performance when I installed the
Plasma Booster in my stock 2002 MINI Cooper 5-speed.

It was a loaner, and I sent it back.

No MPG changes either, and I keep track of every tank with a calculator.

I have the MSD and I have seen the Pilo and they are exactly the same with the exception of color. And... both also fit many Chrysler products ... like the PT Cruiser.

Both are 40k volts

Hold on a sec...are we essentially buying something from you that we could go down to the local Dodge dealer and get for cheaper?

If you want to order, I currently have 1 in stock. I have trouble keeping them on the shelf, I am selling so many of them, that they come in, and tend to go right back out.

Send me an e-mail if you wish for more info.

Thanks

I have plenty in stock as well, not trying to step on Pilo's toes, but the choice is up to you...

When I got my MSD coil and saw that everything on it said for dodge and chrysler, I interested. I called my local dodge with the part number and I could have oredered it through them.

I suspect that MANY of the parts are shared with our domestic cousins. For example, the MCS 6-speed is the exact same tranny as in the Forf Focus

Type Speed manual Torque*
in Nm Center Distance
in mm 1st gear
ratio Weight** Applications

281 5 255 75 3,58 41,5 Fiat Stilo
283 5 to 270 75 3,58 46,6 Land Rover Freelander 4-Zyl. Diesel, 4-/6-Zyl. Otto 120-185 PS,MG Rover 75
285 6 210 90 4,45 45,5 BMW MINI Cooper S, Ford Focus
287 5 to 250 75 3,58 43,7 Chevrolet Cavalier, Pontiac Sunfire, Saturn SVE, Vauxhall Astra, Vectra,Opel Astra, Vectra, Zafira, Speedster
288 5 to 333 90 4,25 54,0 Chrysler PT Cruiser,Mercedes Vito, V-Klasse

I sent a message to Getrag, amd have yet to hear back to see if the type 288 is the same one that is going into the 05 MC. If it is, its availible now, see who else uses it!

The only useful info I have on this topic is, the Pilo coil made by Davis Ignition is a 40K volt coil. The MSD is a 36K volt coil. I got that from MSD over the phone after giving them the part number. Yes I gave them the correct number. Anyways, that's about it.
