Drivetrain Dyno Disappointment.
Dyno Disappointment.
I got my car dynoed today and it blew my mind. numbers sucked.
161hp
181tq
4th gear
sport on
dsc off
it was a dynojet winpep 7
run type: RO, 79 f, 30.00 in-HG, humidity 27%, SAE0.97

Are you completely stock? How many pulls did you do? What boost peak did you hit? I remember you mentioning you had a gauge.
If you are completely stock those aren't bad numbers for at the wheel.

First we ned to know some things, Dyno type? How hot was the bay/garage area? Are you at sea level?
Did they do the pull in 4th gear or if an auto in 3rd? Did they turn off DSC? etc.
Not bad numbers. What intake, what exhaust. Any boost leaks due to loose tubes, etc. How clean was the intake filter?

Dyno numbers are worthless when compared to other cars. You need to compare your baseline to whatever future pulls you make, on the same dyno. There are too many variables. All you should care about is the delta number, nothing else.
1/4 mile times are a better indication of true power.

So, not 2nd cat, no resonator and no muffler. Is this a 3 inch pipe?
Alta's CAI should be at least 6 to 10 over base HP, what boost was noted by the dyno guy or on your gauge during the run?
@not-so, dyno runs can be useful, as you said it is the delta that shows the power, torque curve looks good on this graph. I would have expected better, but I suspect the open pipe might be an issue.

Now you need to put all the Mini stuff back to get another dyno for comparison. Then you will really know if all this after market stuff is worth anything. In my track experience, I have a feeling that many of these bolt ons do not do that much except add some sound.
As not-so suggested, go to the drag strip for some real world tests. You should be looking at 0-60 mph around 6.2 - 6.5 seconds.

They're not that low...torque might be a little low...but your car is essentially stock, so I'm not seeing the issue.
What year is your car?
Overboost might not have engaged either....
And what kind of shop was it...Like what kind of cars do they normally see? If they're not used to seeing the A/F curve of our DI motor, it will surely make them cringe at how lean it is. But you have stock software...its normal.

Hmmmm, maybe they are tuning lower each year to prevent damage.
I was just at the dealer for a service light. But it wasnt a oil change after all it was a scope test?? Then they made note of my intake, exhaust, and suspension upgrades. I swear that they de tuned me for a second time. Once when they detuned the 08s, on a service visit before I knew not to let them. Then this time when I think my car may have thrown a service light related to my mods and they de tuned me again.
Either that or I am just crazy, I give it 50 50 chance either way

I agree, whats happening here on NAM is that everyone is expecting over inflated numbers.
You don't understand. The numbers are relative ONLY to your car.
You didn't make a baseline run bone stock, so you will probably never be able to get a true delta to see what kind of improvement you made.

In 07 they did have a new map which regulated boost more "efficiently". The newer cars since then have the same map.
