Wastegate: More Boost?

I was at a party last night and got to talking to another car guy. We were talking about the MINI and some low cost upgrades. He suggested finding out wether or not the wastegate is electronic and how to increase the boost. I have heard somewhere (can't remember where) that MINI's run about 10-11 pound of boost and I'd like to get that number to like 13-14. I could be mistaken, but that is why I'm asking here.
I've never heard of this being done so it isn't too popular. I'm hoping this thread sheds some light on why.
Thanks.

I am pretty sure it would void your warranty. If it can be done, I would wait until your warranty is up.

ECU tuning is the only safe way to do it, see RMW tuning. Fiddling with the mechanics of the diverter valve is a really bad idea since there will be physical evidence of tampering with it. Your warranty will be out to door running! If you tune you can always remove it without any evidence of it being there and then load it back on when not under the watchful eye of the service department at your MINI dealer.

That sounds like good advice. I may go the tune route. I'll have to think on it. Thanks for the quick response.
While I'm thinking about it. I have an Alta intake and hot side boost tube that my uncle told me voided my warranty already. I was gonna just put the stock stuff back on before the 15k maintenance. Is he correct?

from what I understand the boost isnt dependent on just intake pressure but rather many factors that contribute to the variables that adjust the wastegate so mods than dont take everything into consideration wont do any good

There is a wastegate screw which can be adjusted for a little more boost but now everyone is going to start flaming this thread about it not being safe.

Well that was kinda the point of the thread; to find out if it was safe. It would seem the answer to that question is now apparent.
