Hey everyone, soon it will be my first time on the track
any help, suggestions, tips, what to-do, what not to-do?
how to launch also? (RPMS etc)
I currently have 17" lightweights with non-run flat tyres. What should my tyre pressure be in front?
thanks in advance
i have the 02 cooper s with the longer gear ratio's..how will this affect my 1/4 mile time ?
also would racing fuel help me alot? or is that not necessary?

Stock tire pressures are about 30-35? I'd go 22-25. That is what I did with my Charger on street tires. Any lower might cause problems.
Racing fuel isn't going to help you unless you are tuned for it.
The stock MCS ecu is still 'advanced' for 91 octane fuel. Race fuel will definitely help against detonation that will cause to retard ignition timing hence lose some power.
I asked this question in the Mynes site and they said that any force fed engine (supercharged or turbo) will benefit the use of race fuel tuned or not.
I have played a few gallons myself and the car is like in adrenaline. I love the smell of burned race gas.
You'll appreciate that more during hot summer days.

Be sure to warm up your tires...(burnout) not too much, just a little...If tires are cold, you will get bad wheel hop, and possibly wicked torque steer...trust me...almost put the MINI into the wall b/c of bad torque steer :/ Also, watch the lights...make sure you go on third yellow, not green

I recommend watching some races first before running yourself so you get an idea of what to do.

You dont need to warm street tires. Slicks are the only ones that really benefit from a burnout. All you are doing by spinning street tires is wearing them faster and risking drivetrain damage.
Slicks are the way to go. Far safer than street tires and superior grip.

I've run the drag strip in Albuquerque a few times -- it's at 5500ft elevation. I got a few words of wisdom from a fellow Mini addict who runs a 7 second dragster--she's very quick and co-owns the facility.
If you have a street car, then drive it like a street car. Multiple runs will make you a better driver, but will heat soak your IC, so the best run might be the 3rd. As said before, don't do a burn out--it doesn't help but could risk damage. Go at the yellow before the green -- you'll be surprised how slow you are at reacting. After a while you might find out which lane is quicker--for me it's worth about .2sec at my local.
btw, budoboy--where are you dragging? Does anyone adjust for elevation? I run a flat 15.0, but adjusted to sea level it's mid-14s. Not bad for an old guy in a little front wheel drive car.

if only i got this advice before i put my MINI on the strip, but thanks guys.. very usefull info as i can compare it to my experience on the track
I ran with street tyres and yes im aware of not doing big burnouts, just a small one to put some heat into the tyres for traction..
@ MiniBistroR53, the torque steer issue lol well i had a very similar experience, thanks to my handbrake :D
I ran a 14.9 (best of 3 runs) but my reaction time was very slow 1.5 seconds, and i was soft launching, im sure i am able to go slightly quicker, possibly 14.6 - 14.7
Launching on the third amber light, would i not redlight?

RT doesn't effect your ET, so just concentrate on the launch and not the other driver or the lights as much.
I have never had any torque steer issues with either of my cars, so I cant help with remedying that issue. I would say though, you need to play with tire pressure to help alleviate that torque steer.
My best in my EB car with a pulley, one ball and an intake was a 14.55 @ 94mph. That was on some pretty crappy tires. I will probably get another set of slicks soon, as you can totally change the way you launch the car with them. My silver car was cutting 1.8 60' times with slicks.
Oh yeah, I like to ice the intercooler with a bag of ice, or a bottle of nitrous oxide before each run.

My slow reaction time caused me to play catch up also

well 14.5..thats a good time..
why do you ice your cooler? still have the standard one?
M7 DFIC. I plan on getting the Aerogel blanket as well to help a bit more.
I get the same amount of heat soak with the DFIC as I did with stock, but it recovers MUCH faster. I would hardly need any icing if I had the blanket already.
I run Shell 93 exclusively.

You got the time slip for that? What was your 60ft etc? Normally to get a 13.5 you'd be running 105mph or above so your 60ft must have been awesome!
Also what spec you running? was this on street tyres or slicks?

I was realy struggling to launch my car properly..
Launch lower, it just bogs down completely, launched slightly higher, i spin throughout my 1st gear..

Roadstones? A set of proper drag radials would likely be idea if perhaps a bit impractical if the quarter is something you only do occasionally. A good alternative would be a nice summer tire like a Dunlop Star spec which can be used on regular roads and is still pretty sticky.
What pressure do you run in the front when you drag?
