Not only is onasled's question pertinent, it's the crux of the biscuit. Do you simply want to get on the freeway faster? Are you wanting to get a sub-15sec 1/4 mile time? Do you have a local track with HPDE or track days that you want to get into and enjoy?
Personally, while raw power is cool, a 2006 MCS has enough power to really enjoy if you spend the $2000 on suspension upgrades.
My best mods?
1. lighter wheels and better tires
2. camber plates and rear sway bar
3. Sparco race seat
4. CAI -- purely for the sound...
The other 432 mods on my car just add to the above!

3. cam
You should be able to get all this for 'around' $2000 and would make your car substantially quicker than stock. To make it all work even better, spend an extra few hundred for a ECU tune from the tuner of your choice
.Good luck
Because he's "Tim Taylor" aaaaahhhhuuuuu
......................No really onasled and Dr.Phil are right. davisflyer mentioned some parts, but unless you do your own installation you will be way over $2000. I would say a pulley and a dyno tune, then save some more and get a aftermarket head.

While I havent done this myself and would really like to some day....
I would spend part of it at a driving school. Then you can probably better learn what you want the car to do for you. Plus you get to take your investment with you, regardless of what car you are driving.

Your asking about POWER so I will answer that question.
17% supercharger pulley
New belt
New plugs
Cam
Tune
Or
17%
New belt
New plugs
RMW W/M system
Tune
Either of these will give you some nice gains and a fun car to drive with money left over. If you need more help feel free to PM me
Longboard
Since you want to stay under $2000, heads are out. But bang for your buck you need to start with a Pulley, #1 this will be the most hp gain for the dollar. Pulley Kit This includes the pulley, belt, plugs and a tensioner stop for insurance.
After that installed you should have a little more than $1500, so your options now vary. Cold Air intake $250, Milltek/Stratmosphere exhaust $849
That will make a nice street package and reliable. Then you can decide if you need more power or go onto the suspension and get a rear swaybar.

Thumper TPR-1 $1195
RMW cam $400
Bosch Mini 380 injectors $224
Total=$1969
Figure on about $500 if you need it installed
Yeah, I didn't think of those extra parts, but I did figure about 5 hours of labor @$100PH.
the person selling says the package says ill outrun m3s. hmm
Head.. 15% pulley.. sort out the rest on the next up grade ( there WILL be ONE, and another... and another...LOL)
CAI for the sounds..
Camshaft ( there are a lot of choices..)
Water -meth ( there are a lot of choices ..)
Injectors ( building power will take a bit more fuel)
Of course you belt/gaskets for head install/ labor..
TUNE ( RMW seems to be still the best)
You will be ahead of most.. and the rest of your future mods will fall right into place.. However if the 2K is the budget.. go for the big stuff first!! Head and Pulley!! Just a thought..
Just me......................

I dont' think this guy is a mechanic. Your figures aren't even close. Unless he gets free shipping on everything, all gaskets for free and a REALLY REALLY cheap mechanic who is VERY fast at installs
OK.. Head! $1195.00 TPR-1 ( free shipping)
pulley ! $95.00 ( $10.00 shipping)
Gaskets.. Head/ exhaust/ intake / valve cover.. $220.00 ( usually with shipping)
sub total... $1510.00
Source out a shop for the install... Or a tech.. $490.00!! Depending on where you are.. there are a lot of head installs for 400-450.00 ( an usually the pulley install with the head is pretty cheap!! SOOOoo... you can be so close to the 2000.00 limit that it is scary?? yes??)
However nothing goes as planed, we all know that... lol

What I Did
I'm new here but this is what I did.
I have an '06 MCS.
15% Alta V1 with brisk spark and belt tensioner for $130 shipped
TSW springs and 19mm Rear sway $300 shipped
DDM intake $140 shipped
Helix short shifter $40 (I think)
One Ball exhaust
labor was $500 total
Total around $1,100
I got the springs, sway and intake used from here and MU. If you wait long enough, you can get most parts off of other people for cheap. Except for the sway bar, I got all the parts from the manufacturers I wanted. I'm pretty happy with what I have but if I were to do it again, I would probably get the 17% pulley and 22mm rear sway.
Oh, this is for my DD. No racing etc.

No, I'm no mechanic, but the prices for the items listed are correct. Also, as Thumper460 pointed out, depending on where you live, $500 for the install is not unheard of.
I still think for he wants the prices you are saying are on the low side, very low. If he could get ALL of what you said for the price you said it is certainly a no brainer then.
I could be totally off base on the labor, but I live in the cheap state of TN
. So to definitely stay well within $2000 w/ labor, I'd say 15% pulley, intake, cam, one-ball exhaust mod (with resonator delete), tune. Should be well within $2000 w/labor and around 200+ WHP.
How 'bout that?
