Drivetrain Brave Wastegate tuners... read on!!!
Brave Wastegate tuners... read on!!!
Well....where should i begin? I guess i should begin with skipping reading the idiotic " more free horsepower" post, and should have never touched the wastegate in the first place. But, i knew i couldnt resist such a thing, especially that i did it loong time ago on "vintage" turbo cars and totally forgot about it. Well, here goes my little adventure that lasted 3 days. First off the "little" tune never worked for me, so i proceeded to turn the nuts back to the original position. Day 2 went by ok, i just noticed that strangely my exhaust tone was different. It sounded more deeply and throaty , i also noticed , that somehow the sound of my turbo spooling up was gone at the same time???? day 3, well it was raining ( thursday ). On the way back from school, i noticed tremendous increase of horsepower, at first i thought that rain was cooling our puny intercooler which was getting heat soakedby the massive amounts of extra psi that being generated by the new software i was flashed with ( im over exaggerating here a bit ) . anyway, that happiness only lasted for about few miles worth of driving. then the "half of check engine light came on" ,lol, and no boooooost :( When i got home, i pulled out the owners manual and red about that special icon that made me laugh and then made me cry at the same time. Well , owners manual says " continue your journey , power is cut to prevent further damage, contact dealer whenever you can" . Next day i went to see my friend with his computer to scan for codes, and , to my amazement , nothing was documented in the memory , the main check engine light never was triggered. I was like WTF? i ddint feel like changing my exhaust and downpipe to go to the dealer to see whats up. So i went back home. on the way back i noticed that i had a sound coming from the ront of the engine that sounded like an exhaust leak, so when i got home , i started to investigate. My first guess about the "leak" was the connection of DP to catback exhaust. That was ok. So i proceeded to look up , and strangely enough, something wasnt right. I got out from under the car, and went under the hood. Disconnected the 02 sensor and removed the heat shield and......noticed that one of the 2 nuts that hold the wastegate, is gone, wastegate is tuck in the open position!!!!!!i was like WTF?????? i know i tightened it TWICE!!!!!....so thank god, my fellow friend had an extra turbo laying around from our MINI , i measured the wastegate rod distance and set mines to its specs...everything is back to normal!!! .....finally back on the fun part of tuning
kids dont try this at home LOL

kids dont try this at home LOL
Times DUEX.

I saw that arm and i was like, nice with an evil grin. Then i told myself "hector this is not a toyota supra pre OBDII stuff so dont touch it!"
So i listened to my inner being.
.PS....I'll be buying one of your new DP's for my Invidia real real soon....I'm so glad you finally made it happen!
