There has been talk of OBD, yet nothing solid has materialized yet.

As for the UniChip, I said it before...

Piggy back is not the way to go with this ECU, actually I would say with any ECU. However this engine is exceptionally cranky about piggyback.

Im really glad I didnt buy a piggy back unit. What a waste of money. Its really a peice of scheise. They people involved in making it should give people their money back. Its nonsense they continually send out new wiring harness which dont work, We pay for stuff and want to be able to use it.

It may sound like everyones having problems, but its just few, such as people getting CEL from downpipes. After reading about some people who have had problems with piggybacks, I have still purchased mine. Mine has no problems and the reason why it looks like a bad mod is because a few people have had problems and exaggerated on how many were defective. Although some people had defective ones. You should not judge anything because you have read some negative reviews. It would be similar to NOT buying a mini cooper because of what you have read in the "Problems" thread.

you make some good points, however the unichip harness has a success rate of less than 50%.

Get a good harness and you shouldn't have any problems. It's getting a good harness that can be the problem.

05 mini s

I purchased a unichip after putting headers, catback system,15% pully for supercharger, and a cold box. The unichip was programed and mapped for my car with these upgrades. I saw no change in performance. Then i got the code for throttle monitor and had to return the unichip. They sent a new harness and a reprogrammed chip. Still no performance enhancement. After a while the code came back and unichip says to send it to them again. Is there anyone out there who has seen a substatial performance increase to warrent the 700 to 800 dollar price tag.

you are the first i've heard of that didn't see a substantial increase in power.

you are not the first to have a bad harness.

Will an OBDII tune void warranty? Can it be removed without any marks on the stock equip?

define very bad AFR. the MINIs run pretty lean as it is (~15.5) AND it looks like a sawtooth pattern.

I woudn't call something that adds 40+lbs torque junk. I would call the harnesses junk. It took me several tries to get a good one.

Me? Once I finally got the good harness it was great. I've got a ECU tune now. The chip was stronger than the ECU tune - but the ECU tune hasn't been customized yet. I won't be dyno tuning this MINI though as my lease is up next month.

BostonR56 should be able to give his impression of it soon. He bought mine from me and is installing it today.

hahahhahaha so all this time you've been trying to tune your car using the UniChip?! You never once mentioned that when people asked you 293874980 times what you are using to tune...interesting tidbit you failed to mention.

Now wonder it doesn't work.

Hope your "real software" is actually done in 3 weeks and that it gets everything working together wonderfully though.

Hi Folks, I have been reading notes on ECU upgrades but I don't see anything for recent times 2011-2012. I have a 2008 Cooper S, (12/07).
My question is that I have seen ECU and chip upgrades that promise 40 to 60 hp increase. The prices range from $69 dollars to $1000+. What is the difference from a $69 chip addition to $1000 upgrade. Does the chip upgrade work? Also have their been any improvements in the problems of ECU upgrades since these original messages. Trying to sort the hype. Thank YOU

$69 chip = $$$$$$ of engine repair monies! Seriously though, do a little research on the various tunes on here and you'll get a better understanding on what you're getting into.
