It was a different car felt like a car with a whole lot more HP. I remember just breaking the tires loose all the time in 2nd gear. The car just put you back in the seat and took off. I would of never sold the Unichip if I didn't have to.

gotcha...im just worried about the pigtail of whatever being faulty ... sounds like people go trough a few of them under warranty to try and get a good one. This would be iffy if i got a used one...warranty is void after the first owner

Yeah I have heard a lot of bad things about the connections. But mine was bought used and never had any problems. Personally I'm waiting for another solution such as OBDII tuning which is going to be awesome.

That describes it pretty well. You didn't mention the tires breaking loose in third gear though.

What kind of power are people expecting with "real ecu tunes"? The small turbo can only put out so much power.

I just want the same or a little more than I had originally with my unichip, except that it just runs reliably.

I agree %100 if I can get the same performance as the Piggyback I would purchase the Tune in a heart beat.

Hmm, a reliable PnP ECU would be better to handle with IMO. Get the unichip and get it tuned at a tuning shop, they can adjust it like get rid of CEL and can also adjust a/f mixture, timing, boost, ect from the unichip. If you were going to dealership you can always take off the PnP prior to going. Unichip is available AT THE MOMENT and adds TONS of power plus you can always sell it after. Just my opinion.

I believe it is the Hamann Mini R56, its top model is getting at least 230hp with tune, exhaust and intercooler. Stock internals. And most importantly reliability!

It would be helpful if folks would speak in plain English with reliable figures. "A whole lot more" or "Breaking the tires loose" or other such euphemisms are pretty much useless data points.

If you can provide actual fwhp numbers at a specific engine speed we would all be able to compare notes and would be able to make reasoned decisions.

Please do not take this as a slam against you, I certainly do not intend it that way. But unless we are talking in common terms that are easily understood, we are pretty much wasting our time talking about it...

the unichip is still listed on the websites of several performance parts vendors sites much to my surprise. It seems safe to say you have a less than 50% chance of a problem free experience. Make sense?

Evotech has had a tune out for quite awhile. It can be dynotuned by dealers or you can get the pre-configured tune from Mini Madness. I believe they can make some tweaks for individual needs.

I don't think there are any other real games in town yet and with the economy where it's at, I imagine everyone's R&D has taken a big hit.

Scott, so sorry to read that the Unichip just isn't working out for you after all this time. Have you tried hardwiring or not an option?

Yea...if nothing comes out before summer..I'm going to go EvoTech for now. I'm lucky to have the main EvoTech distributor in my hometown, so I can get it tuned by them.

Ok, I'm not anywhere close to being knowledgable about this topic however, I do want to get something like this to gain more horsepower so that everything else I eventually do will work to its full potential, or at least close to it. This much I understand.

but with all that said, I have been waiting to see how this whole unichip works out and it seems there are mixed findings concerning the reliability of the technology. But, what about this OBDII tuning? What is the difference between this and the Unichip? Does OBDII reconfigure the computer and the Unichip is a separate component that overrides the OEM computer?

I apologize in advance for my lack of knowledge on the subject matter. I ahve tried reading information on the topic but it all gets jumbled up inside my head and then I get really confused

mixed concerns about reliability - nothing mixed here. The harness either works or it doesn't. It often doesn't. Once you get a good harness it's fairly reliable. I haven't had a CEL since i got my latest harness many months ago.

AN OBD tune doesn't have a harness so that's a major stumbling block out of the way.

Okay so which tunes are OBD? How much do they cost? And do you get what you pay for?
