Secondary sponsors, KONI, and a brake pad manufacturer to be named later? Go after the manufacturers of the "consumables" to come up with the biggest bucks.

I think you are right about the media distribution, too. DVDs with a commercial or two from the main sponsors, at nominal cost each, say one or two bucks. Mount cameras in the cars and make that footage part of the DVD.
If we get the mods to post a syicky that shows the poll of attendance. And if its a large enough figure. Then the major players will step up. it cost them a lot of money to operate. If they see enough interest, they will come.

i didnt even think of the in/on car camera. Thats a great one! Ide do it!

Competition is great and will bring out the full potential of these cars, But posting it on on a forum that gets as sidetracked as NAM does, is going to do no good. It's only gonna stir up crap. People don't stay on topic in here. This kind of stuff should be settled before we ever hear about it, then the results are reported.

yes i see what you mean. i would love the mods to be able to delete the posts that are useless. but that would take way to much of there time. Next best thing is for us to mod as well. if we stayed on track. And took this serious, it could happen.
by the way, I just sent an email to a major media host with this challenge. They are heavily involved in racing on TV. I will post the results of the reply.
it may take anywhere from a few days to a week or two, to get a response.

Im going to do whatever I can to make this event happen, and happen big. Im not going to give up until Ive exhausted every resource I have.
I think this is a great challenge.

lol.

I love the drama. Ooooooh, this thread is going to single handedly bring down NAM. Oh man, our economy is in the toilet, we are in a war amd losing half a million jobs a month in this country and people are worried about this thread bringing down NAM? Thanks for the comic relief this morning.

Nope It wouldnt matter who wins. At the end of the day those who want a turbo are going to get a turbo and the same goes for those who those who like a SC.

I look at it this way. Either one of two things can happen with this challenge. It could either just become a bunch of time wasted by hot air.

But at least I can say that I tried to make a fun event into a reality

OR

this event will happen, it will be big, and fun, And I will be able to say see. i told you it was possible

Now, if it is to expensive to host there, maybe we could try Firebird here in AZ. The home of the other challenger.
But that would be up to RMW, if they want to take the trip out here for it.

basicaly, we are waiting for RMW and Mynes to agree on a date, track, and vehicle building rules.

I am just wanting to get a feedback from the mini community. IF this happens, would you attend?
it's such a simple question that just requires a yes or no. This way I, We know if it has any chance of becoming reality.

if you dont think it will happen, thats fine. but i dont really care to hear it. Its not anyones opinion being asked. just a yes, or no.

Please. Is this really that much to ask from all you guys?
I would really like to see these two mini's compete.

Yes or no. Would you attend?

.

We'll be making some calls today to see where we can go with this. Geographically, it's hard to accommodate everyone. If we keep it here on the West Coast, the folks on the East will likely not attend :(

With that said, i think Firebird Raceway might be a really good candidate for this type of event. They have three open tracks (East and West road tracks and the Main track for the Drag event)... Plus there's ample space for vendors and participants. It's close enough to SoCal and Vegas and this would fire up the local scene as well. Just throwing out some suggestions...

Yeah Firebird is good, was watching a Fun Ford Event (drag) and if we turned round we could see RSR Minis going around the track.

Also I pulled a .005 light in the hired Chevy truck there at a test and tune after being up for 26hrs I must add that has never happened again. :(

As for the people looking in and moaning and groaning, its just like the TV or Radio if you dont like it, switch it off, or in this case dont click the mouse.

Have you got enough money saved for the rebuild

In fact your name did crop up in conversation at about 2am your time, think you might have to get a second job soon to pay for some upgrades

Thanks for the offer Kal, how many car lengths do you think Jan would want? 20 or 30 ?

Nice thought...

but I don't think it will fly.

Look, there are already open track events that are out there with rules and all the other stuff that one wants, and how's the attendance there? Um, it's declining... That's for sure....

Wicks has races at a track near AMVIV that's Mini only. There are hundreds of Minis that go to AMVIV. This year, attendance is down, as are the number of vendors.

Hooked on Driving has HPDEs that were mini only.. Last couple had to be opened to other cars because there weren't enough Minis signed up to fill the event.

Really, the track rats already have thier places to play that they like, and the organizations that run them. And to tell the truth, running with Minis is fun, but I find it more fun to run with groups where there's a nice mix of car models.

Really, things like this don't settle anything. There's so much that goes into a good race from the driver, the car set up, the track conditions, the weather whatever that whoever wins on one day may not win the next. So what does one get? Bragging rights till the next green flag drops.

What's it cost a vendor to show up at something like this? three day weekend with staff, hotels, food and the like. That's a lot of stuff to sell to cover costs, even before someone volenteers more money to help sponsor events. And think about it, how many people who go to these things make a point to buy stuff from the vendors at the shows to make it worth vendors time to show up? (FWIW, at the Nor Cal Shelby events I try to buy a $5-$10 part from each vendor there to help with thier costs... It's not much but it helps.... At AMVIV I try to buy as well, but I can't afford to buy from everyone.....)

While Mulas efforts are sincere, I think they're a bit naive... Re-read Gnatsters post on the costs.... It's a lot of money for sure.

Want something like this to have a chance of working? How about tagging along on an existing event, and getting interested parties to show up. Oh wait... That's what started this whole thing......

Matt

I dont think a supercharger vs turbo comparison is the best.. but I sure am excited to see a showdown time attack mini awesomeness.

reminds me of asm vs. top fuel s2k

skip sorta to the end - note the difference between 300hp NA and 600hp Turbo only .3ish difference. to me supercharged is much like NA only alittle more efficient/less responsive

basically theres a lot more to it..

better have the rebuild money.... he's blown every car I have seen him touch here in Cali

I doubt I would need to give anything except a tow truck to pull you off the course
