Exhaust Depot vs. Alta Turbo Back

I want a turbo back exhaust for my mini. So far these seem like my 2 best options.

Exhaust Depot: 3" downpipe wit cat would run me just over a grand plus whatever shipping charges. I would have them paint it black. Does that cost extra?

Alta: 3" Turboback Dual Tip can be had at 10% Discount for 1368.00

Alta is local to me, so no shipping necessary.

Has anyone here had both setups? Can you comment on the differences?

Thanks!

Where are you getting this price from? He has the 3" listed for $450 without a cat.

450 for Downpipe back maybe....

he said 'with downpipe', meaning turboback, which will run you 1k+$
dp itself ~800 or so more less.

i'd imagine dp is with cat to not run into CEL issues, and not have your head blown off by drone =p

loving my magnaflow downpipe back, ended up payin about $375 or so for downpipe back (2nd cat delete, no res, 2.5") drones @ 3krpm, but im def getting more used to it... i have a magnaflow res 20" sittin in its box new waitin to be put on at some point

I believe if you get a turboback from exhaust depot he will use a magnaflow muffler, so that'd be my suggestion, as i think it sounds straightup MEAN.

all my buddies comment "dude this does NOT sound like a 4 banger!" imagine as a turboback... ogoshigottachangemypants

I am not aware of any concerns with fitment on the R56 systems. If you have seen something PLEASE let me know so I can help these people out. There should be any issues at all!

Thanks for the kind words though! Chat soon!

That's awesome.

Just caught the 14% discount today on your site. I'm not quite ready to pull the trigger yet. Just considering my options.

If it makes ya feel any better I bought my coilovers from ya, along with scads of other Alta parts. Your exhaust is definitely on the top of my list though.

thanks Adam

Randy.

I know, I know, but what kind of place would PDX be if we have cars running around with non-ALTA systems on them? The next PDXMINI event I would be in tears!

But seriously, let me know what you want to do and I can help further. Like when to schedule you to come in and pick up the parts, or have them mounted on the car!

Don't forget to check out the Miltek & WayMotorWorks exhausts. From what I've been able to discern the 2.5" is more efficient for the R56.

Not to resurrect that entire argument again, but for the new folks skimming through, the 3" wins in all cases (turbo cars, not N/A) hands down. While 2.5" may be ADEQUATE enough, it still leaves power on the table for the 3" to pick up FTW!

Thanks for the comments! Chat soon!

I have heard ALTAs full turbo exhaust after a break in at about 5000 miles. There is no other exhaust that sounds as good as this one. The price is cheaper now too. My friend paid 1800 for his, his only complaint was the PRICE and cheap azzzz V Bands.,

It's funny that you state that as fact when it's certainly not.

Well we got the price handled, and the few clients that got bad v-bands got those replaced under warranty. V-Bands are EXPENSIVE, not cheap. FAR more expensive than typical gasketed joints.

Thank you for your comments!

Again, hilarious. And I am at the local events, so I hate to hurt your feelings

I want the Stealth system! If you can quote me a good deal on an install price, then you have yourself a sale. I think I could make it in sometime next week.

Ya know, I'm noticing that I'm making decisions about my car a LOT quicker these days. Seems to only take a day or two now.

If you can, PM me your daytime contact info and I will ring you Monday to clear install time and final prices. Chat soon and have a GREAT weekend!

alta - does it again

Hello All...just installed my alta turbo back exhaust stealth dual tip...once again, I am thrilled with the product - as I have been with all of my alta products...installation wasn't that bad(outside of some poor engineering by bmw, regarding the bolts of the oem turbo heat shield)....took about 3 hours to remove the oem system and put this one in...if the oem heat shield bolts were in a more accessible place this would have been a relative breeze of an install....now on to the performance, WOW!! Car sounds awesome, and the turbo is clearly running cooler with the exhaust....great job Adam/Team Alta!!!

I'm sure everyone has read about ALTA Downpipe's seriously annoying CEL issue. This is quoted from their website:

The ALTA R56 Downpipes utilize 2 catalytic converters, just like the OEM parts. This makes for a 49 state legal exhaust system. The cats are a high quality 200 cell per inch, metallic core. One item that sets us above the rest is we use a special cat. The front catalytic converter has 2 times the amount of coating on the substrate to combat any possible CEL. While adding significant cost to our system, this ensures that the check engine light will not ever come on.

Is this new? How many are actually reporting CELs? How many are not?

The primary catalyst being fancier than the secondary has been in place for a long time. What has changed is a few things with the OEM MINI ECU programming. Regardless, we have further improved the catalyst included, and also have an additional solution that has thus far solved near 100% of the clients with a P0420 code concern.

If anyone else has any issues or concern, please PM or e-mail me directly for the most prompt service!

Thanks again NAM!
