Stock MINI exhaust side - not a problem with the header. Apparently broke AFTER it was reinstalled, hence the reason Dan and I didn't notice it on my test drive at Grassroots Garage, but noticed it in the next few days. Chalk it up to massive power. It looked FINE.... just like it should... Until you grabbed the exhaust and shook it just right, then you could see that the pipe was wiggling around inside the flange...
I shook the rear part of the catback in trying to find the noise, but never grabbed and shook it up there... hard to be thorough when it's on stands and I'm on my back on a creeper... and my massive belly is dragging on the bottom of the car...

Good to hear that you got that rattle taken care of
.
I think as this thread continues, we are going to find out that more often than not, the problem is not the header, but some other part of the exhaust, or as in my case, lots of loose heat shields!

so Paul are you still thinking about ditching the one ball and getting a cat back? The sound has got to be awesome with a nice cat back installed and the RMW header!! OctaneGuy has the Invidia on like myself and he says it sounds soooo good with the RMW header and Invidia cat back....man i'm getting antsy just thinking about it!

I'm actually loving my one-ball with the shorty...
This video is from another car - I'm in front during most of the run - skip forward to about 8:05 - there (and for the rest of that lap) you can hear my exhaust pretty clearly over the sound of the car with the camera (which has a JCW exhaust and shorty header)

And here's video from inside my car:
It's relatively quite inside my car with the top up (though, believe me, it sounded much louder in the driver's seat than it sounds in the video) - but it's nice and throaty and appropriately raspy at WOT when you hear it from behind (or going by)...
I like it a lot... I'm just not seeing how I'm going to like something different enough more to justify the cost AND the hassle of relocating my air horn.

Sleeper Cabrios piloted by rotund drivers, for the win!!!
As you and lfa were so quick to tell me earlier in this thread, let's keep this on topic. Not that staying on topic would be very NAM-like.

It isn't. Though the JCW doesn't really sound raspy to me in "real life"... it's pretty mellow.

Point taken.

^ It sounds BETTER in that one...but still just so much like a 4 cyl to me
. Its hard to make a 1.6L 4cyl to sound beefy, I know, thats why I might not even try. Header on stock exhaust is probably fine though.

What can I say, it IS a 4cyl, and a small one at that! Basically I think the header (sound wise) will simply amplify whatever your current exhaust sounds like. There are other exhaust systems which sound beefier than stock/JCW, but FOR ME, it's not worth the investment to make it sound different. I bought the header for the performance improvement.
Glad to see everyone is getting their vibrations fixed and to see the video's on the track. Looks like everyone was having fun. Mzero.... you bought a 4 banger not a Ferrari....LOL
I'll try and get some video of the new quiet exhaust with the TVS in the next couple of weeks.

Intense - I think I'm first in line for that quiet exhaust, that is if Jan can get Mike to build another one. At least I don't have to worry about Danny wanting one.

Quiet Schmiet. I don't want any of that action, either... I'd rather have littlehandegan's....
I just slapped myself for going OT in my own thread. So there.

not really - no access to a lift - there's only one flange on the OEM exhaust where it bolts onto the header... The pipe was not securely welded into that flange...
I guess since the prob is fixed, you now may go completely and utterly off topic!

I don't like either of them...hopefully header on stock exhaust isn't as raspy
