Is this normal results for 2003 Cooper S JCW 210hp dyno?

Hi guys,

As you know I'm going to be adding quite a few performance parts to my Mini very soon. So I thought I'd get my car dyno'd before and during the process when possible.

I was shocked to find my car is only doing 133hp to the wheels This is way lower than what BMW rated even 210hp (although that is at the crank). So lets say I should be expecting the following. 15% loss from drivetrain equates to 180ish HP at the wheels? I also live at quite a high altitude 4300ft. So that will also effect my results. It was around 27 degrees celcius and I'm running the car on 93 unleaded (we dont have any better quality here).

But I did not think it would be THAT low? Is this normal?

Well, it's possible for sure, but low, yes. Usually when dyno'd at altitude they make an adjustment for the altitude, so is that figure adjusted or raw? I dyno'd some years ago at 5000ft and got 180 at the wheels (adjusted). I think the actual altitude reading was more like 165hp.
I recently did a run with my iPhone Dynolicious and got 150 which is not adjusted for altitude.

I don't think it is. Just raw - but I didn't think it would have that much of an effect of the performance!

My friend has a Fiesta ST which they dyno'd on the same day with just 2 minor mods and it did 120hp at the wheels. Factory rated at the crank those cars are 150hp. So now why such a big difference with my car?

yon might have a slipping belt or something to that effect or a loss of boost somewhere.

Just a thought.

Wow that means your Magnaflow must be giving you +30hp? You also in a high altitude area like me?

Anybody else dyno their stock Cooper S JCW? Would be interesting to compare figures.

I really hope that is the case. I'm getting a 17% pulley with the mods, so at least if that is the problem with the belt slipping it will be resolved when the new pulley and belt go in!

A Ford Fiesta with 120hp at the wheels ...are you serious or did you make a mistake and ment to say Focus. I make fun of the Fiesta every time I see one and to think they have more power than a base MC is shocking to say the least!

Absolutely not. I read in magazine that all the dyno's instead Dynopack, have different reads. A man tried a car in different dyno's and it gives different result. Don't forget Jan said that do not compare your car with others cars.

I don't understand it either, only 13hp more than what their car was doing. If drag race him I still leave him by quite a few car lengths behind.

I hope Jan's product can work their magic and get my car over the 200hp mark!

This is what I have in stall for the car. Remember it is already a JCW. I know some of the mods are not perfomance related, but listed anyways.

RMW Head
RMW Header
RMW Camshaft
440cc injectors
ALTA JCW Replacement Filter
ALTA 17% SCP and new belt
ALTA 4" Antenna
MSD Ignition Coil
MSD Ignition Wires
NGK Iridium Spark plugs colder range
Quaife LSD
GRS Intercooler
M7 OCC
M7 Strut Brace
M7 Extreme Scoop
Slotted front + rear rotors with JCW big brake kit.
S/S braided brake lines
RMW Tune (hopefully if Jan can make his way down here )

What do you think I will put to the wheels then? Remember the factors.

95 unleaded (but according to the RON table, it's the equivalent of your 93 octane)
4300ft above sea level

There's a thread on the general discussion forum about the Dynolicious app. for the iPhone G3/Touch. Lots of information there, but simply it's a $12.99 download from the Apple App store.

Back to normal programming...
cheers,

you do not need to MSD Ignition Coil, MSD Ignition Wires and GRS intercooler Jan recommendation. Furthermore I have Outmotoring antenna and the radio signal is bad.

I had the Screamin' Deamon Coil pack, I went back to the stock Bosch coil pack since it's simply a better one. I noticed no real difference with the S.D. Pack installed...

wrt the RMW car you spec'd: dump the coil and wires as per Luys' suggestion, Jan will recommend Brisk plugs, and I personally find the strut brace a questionable addition (but it will probably lift your bonnet 1/4" - 1/2"). Finally, again to echo Luys, the IC is a bling-thing.

I have seen the head/cam/header combo reach well into the >200HP range (230ish).

Good luck

Find out what the correction is for altitude and temperature. They can have a huge impact on performance. Also, did you have a fresh air filter, oil and plugs? These can also severely impact your cars performance.

I changed my original air filter at 12k miles when I felt like my car was becoming quite lethargic and the difference was HUGE. I went from being able to chirp shifting into 2nd to being able to chirp the tires in the first 4 gears!

I know the ignition coil etc. are a waste, but think of it then as an aesthetic mod

My car is actually due for its service in 1000 miles. Haven't changed the filter since about 15000miles ago

I would try to figure out why you're seeing such crappy numbers before modding it. You could throw the whole kit & kaboodle on it and still be way down on a lot of people, starting from 133whp... imho

If there is something wrong, it can be fixed! Someone mentioned that it might be belt slippage? If so is there any way I can check myself if that might be the case?
