Using your results there is about a 1 PSI difference in boost between the M7 DFIC and the GRS intercooler, I suspect this difference in boost is being dropped across the core of the GRS. If this is the case the total pressure drop across the core must be greater than 1 PSI - assuming the supercharger presents the same level of boost to the input of both intercoolers.

However, it's the ratio of pressure and temperature in the inlet manifold which determines air density and in this regard the GRS intercooler does a good job of optimising the two variables.

I've had the GRS test IC on for a while and it only run the quickest ET at both Mini drag racing events this year with a stock cyl head. 13.6 @104.33 and 13.7 @ 102.

We'll hopefully do some back to back test at www.bmwshow.co.uk in a couple of weeks

So are you claiming the IC got you to that number? What did you pull with the same set and the stock IC?

G'day Paul,

As part of your evaluation are you able to use a data logger to capture both temperature and boost in the inlet manifold? It would be nice to see how the air density changes with increasing intake temperatures.

Cheers

Intense, here's another Laminova based W2A to add to your wish list.

Yes it is...

the thing where the old IC was is just a flow tube. The log has a (two?) Laminova core in it. This unit has a very old history (first time I saw it, it was for sale on eBay as a take off from race car years ago!) and Clint of D.O.S. has been involved in modernizing the design for improved perfomance and manufacturability. Appearences can be decieving!

Better to be on the the list than not at all

I didn't realise you believe everything you read, heater core, front sound deading. rear upper seats, and rear speakers are missing. The front seats have been swopped for a pair of Kirkys.

But I do have the added weight of a NOS bottle and a full 8 point chrome moly cage tagged to go 8.50 in the 1/4.

Sorry Darrin for the lack of reply, I can only log boost pressure while I'm driving or racing, you have reminded me to contact FJO to see if I can do this with the software I've got.

Far as I know...

it, and it's predicessor, is the only Laminova core for the Mini on the market....

That is, till someone else makes one!

For what it's worth, the newer case has a lower mass, better thermal properties, and better internal air flow than the Al unit that proceeded it.

Matt, you have a mind like a steel trap. Wish I had the chance to actually show you the IC at MMMT.

It don't think it would be worth it...

I'm of the opinion that it would do little to nothing to provide cooler temps. It looks neat tho

When someone donates a cut-up hood the first hurdle would be met. It reality, I can't see it making that much difference, maybe the manufacturers have differential data across the cores which would lead us to believe different.
