m7 heat shield installed

installed the turbo heat shield last night. nicely made and a good fit. a few suggestions for installation.
do not remove the tape covering at first, fit the cover and partially screw in the bolts. after you are sure everthing is lined up remove the tape cover strip buy reaching under with the bolt in place and stick down . then remove one bolt at a time , put a drop of lock tight on and reinstall the bolt all the way-repeat on the other side . takes 10-15 min at most. looks great ---now to see how well it works as soon as the rains stop here.

does the shield replace the stock upper heat shield over the turbo, or does it sit over the oem heatshield? does it still allow access to the O2 sensor?

a photo would be great when you get a chance.
thanks.

it sits on top-you just remove the 2 outer top bolts from the oem shield and replace them with the supplied bolts. you would have to remove it to work on the turbo. there is a venting hole but you couldn't do anything through it. pictures are on their website

yeah, the pics on M7's site dont show it from straight on and above.
hard to see how it sits....and if there is access to the O2 sensor.

it sits directly on the black valve cover ( if that's what it is ) and the turbo shield on the drivers side. with plenty of room for flow of air. forget any chance of working on any part of the turbo-the hole or any other access is to small/ tight to work.why the concern about the o2 sensor- it's really easy to take off the shield and put a strip of 2 sided tape back if work is needed. only have to unscrew 2 bolts

my concern isn't so much getting access to the O2 sensor.
its that the O2 sensor wires are now sitting between the oem shield and the M7 shield. just curious about the heat in that area and the wires to the 02 sensor.

i was curious if there is a hole for the wires to stay above that area.

the hole in the lower passenger side is directly over that area ( you can see and touch them within milimeters of the opening. ) i spoke to peter at m7 and he stated that the hole was specifically designed to vent heat from that area

If you want to see what it looks like here is a thread in Coupe Talk (2007+) posted by MeloR56 with pictures of the M7 heat shield installation with before and after temperature readings.

I just installed mine this weekend as well, looks great and it is good to see a reduction in under bonnet hood temps

one issue, mine is rubbing on the hood though in one little area...

Oh K! I just got off the phone with Peter @ m7. 10 minutes after a 6.0 earthquake!

Anyway, he said any units now shipping will have addl. adjustment to the mounting holes.

Let me know if I can help!

i'm interested in this piece as well. I already have the WMW turbo shield which does a great job at controlling the heat but the M7 one really cleans up the engine bay. Looking forward to the testing Adam!

the only interest i have for the heatshield is to prevent my silly hoodscoop from melting...

but it also looks like m7 raised their prices to 200 dollars... i am getting another hoodscoop under warentee but can easily sell that and get the m7 vortex hoodscoop... question is... heat shield or scoop?

Just kidding! Do the scoop! At least then people can see it! Then get the shield later!

They raised the price? ugh...well looks like I won't be buying it now. I already have the WMW heat shield and 200 bucks for essentially a piece of underhood dress up is pretty steep. I guess I'll have to learn to love the look of that OEM heatshield.
